We're massively excited as 2 of our graduates are in New York right now, getting ready to attend the New York Festivals Radio Awards. Our station Spark FM is up for Best Student Station in the world and MA Graduate Jay Sykes is up for Best Student Radio Drama. We should know the results on Tuesday morning.

VACANCIES:

PROGRAMMES MANAGER
• Organises Schedule
• Provides coaching and talent development
• Develops programming strategy
• Leads Executive Producer and presenter teams
• Develops Community-based programming initiatives

The Programme Manager organises the presenter/producer team and the shape and direction of the schedule. The Programme Manager is responsible for the on-air team and their development. This role is about people

Core Skills
should have confident knowledge of Ofcom's broadcasting codes and compliance.
Should have knowledge of RCS Master Control and Selector
Ability to lead team of producers and executive producers
Ability to give feedback on shows and listen to demos
Should be organised and able to plan and manage people and systems
Should have experience or knowledge of developing talent and/or ideas

Reports to: Executive Board /Faculty Manager for Spark FM
Commitment: 10-14 hours per week

CONTENT MANAGER
• Develops multiplatform content for radio programmes
• Ensures TV and Magazine content is shared/promoted on the radio
• Co-ordinates with Music and Production Teams
• Leads cross-station/brand initiatives and projects
• Develops projects, campaigns and produced content
• Develops content opportunities with a range of partners

The Content Manager works with teams on the content of programmes - and how content is developed and shared between the TV, Online and Magazine teams. The Content Manager is responsible for the content and the sound of radio programmes. This role is about content

Core Skills:
Ability to plan events such as Outside Broadcasts, Specials and Campaigns
should have confident knowledge of Ofcom's broadcasting codes and compliance.
Should have knowledge of RCS Master Control and Selector
should have skills on one or more media platform (such as video, writing or web)
should have experience or knowledge of developing talent and/or ideas

Reports to: Programmes Manager / Faculty TV and FM Manager
Commitment: 10-14 hours per week

STATION ASSISTANTS
• Provide Office-based support to on-air programmes
• Provide support for Programme and Content Managers
• Deal with phone, email and social media queries
• Conduct Interviews or research as directed by Producers/Presenters

Station Assistants provide a range of support to the programming team, from offering office based administrative support to conducting interviews, producing features, meeting guests and helping to plan events and programmes.

Core Skills:
Some basic knowledge of media production
Willingness to work in a team on a variety of tasks
An interest in local radio broadcasting

Reports to: Programmes Manager / Office Manager / Executive Producers
Commitment: Minimum of 1 half-day per week.

Coming to the end of you undergraduate degree and want to work in radio? Increase your chances of employment by studying a practical MA in Radio at the University of Sunderland. The Open Day for our MA (starting in September 2013) is coming up soon - WEDNESDAY 15th MAY 2013 from 12-4.30pm in the David Puttnam Media Centre. It's a chance to find out about this excellent course - the only MA Radio degree in the UK accredited by Creative Skillset - and the opportunities it offers for a career in radio.

Next weeks student masterclass is all about radio. We've got the producers of the breakfast shows on Capital FM and Real Radio coming in. They're both Sunderland graduates and will be talking about they got in and will share some tips on making great radio. Wednesday 1pm in the Cinema

This is guy who runs BBC Sport, Radio 5 Live, Future Media and Technology, Children's TV and everything produced at MediaCity. This is your chance to meet the man in charge of the biggest media production centre outside of London. Not to be missed.

Hi All. You might like to join us for an external event being held on Campus. Our friends at Sound Women are hosting their first North East event on campus this coming Monday at 6pm in the Prospect Building. The key speaker will be Chris Burns, the Group Manager for BBC Radio - effectively the number 2 person at the BBC! So, if you want to get into radio this is a must attend!!

Next weeks Wednesday Masterclass is all about radio. Producer Sara Parker will be here, to talk about her documentary work for BBC Radio 1, 4 and 5 Live. She's tackled all kinds of subjects from P**n and Teenagers to travelling to Uzbekistan with a group of Bukharin Jews. Her work is greatly influenced by that of her late father, the hugely influential Charles Parker. Keep your eyes open for details of venue etc.
