GREAT to have my training partner back (until the next marathon/ half marathon). Workouts are just more fun, more efficient, more productive with a top brother in arms.

Kurt hasn’t lifted for a month. His priority is running and with a couple of recent events, he has rightly been focussed on the road (AND the hills!) and it showed as strength dropped off the cliff a little but considering, the lay off and the clear drop in body weight from all those miles, he has retained lots.

This man has transformed his body, reignited his life, overcame mental illness, all through athletic performance. He is in a great place and nobody deserves it more 🙏💪❤️

You don’t need more motivation. You need somewhere you’re expected to turn up.

Motivation is great when you’ve got it.

The problem is, it doesn’t last.

After a long day at work, when you’re tired, stressed and the weather’s s**t, motivation usually disappears pretty quickly.

And when you train alone, nobody notices if you don’t turn up.

Nobody asks where you were.

Nobody is waiting for you.

That’s one of the biggest benefits of training with a good group of people.

You’ve got coaches who know your name.

Training partners who expect to see you.

People who notice when you’ve been missing and give you a bit of s**t when you finally come back. 😂

And after a while, turning up just becomes what you do.

You stop relying on motivation and start building discipline.

Some days you’ll be buzzing to train.

Other days you’ll have to drag yourself through the door.

But I’ve rarely met anyone who regretted turning up once the session was finished.

Find good people. Put yourself in the right environment. Keep turning up.

The rest starts taking care of itself. 🥊

Children don’t grow stronger by avoiding every challenge.

They grow by facing things that are difficult, getting things wrong and learning to keep going.

That’s what martial arts teaches.

Every tough round, missed technique and moment when they feel like giving up gives them a choice: stop—or dig deep and try again.

Discipline teaches them to turn up when they don’t feel like it. Adversity teaches them that struggle isn’t something to fear—it’s where growth happens.

We’re not just teaching these children how to punch and kick.

We’re teaching them to stay calm under pressure, work for what they want and believe they can overcome difficult things.

Skills that will serve them long after they leave the mats.

Strong children aren’t protected from every struggle.

They’re shown how to face it. 🛡️

Confidence isn’t something you can give your child.

You can tell them they’re brilliant. Tell them they’re capable. Tell them to believe in themselves.
But eventually, they have to prove it to themselves.

That’s where real confidence comes from.

Doing something that scares them. Getting something wrong. Losing. Struggling. Feeling uncomfortable... and doing it anyway.
I’ve seen kids walk into the gym too nervous to speak or even look you in the eye.

Then you watch them change.

They learn something they thought they couldn’t do. They get stronger. They earn a belt. They stand in front of the class. They start helping the new kid who reminds them of themselves a few months earlier.
Those little wins add up.

Eventually that child starts thinking:
“Maybe I can do hard things.”
That’s confidence.

Not being loud. Not thinking you're better than everyone else.
Just knowing that when life gets difficult, you can handle yourself.

We can’t give our kids confidence.
But we can give them opportunities to earn it.
That’s one of the biggest reasons I believe in martial arts and it's exactly what we do here at The Spartan gym.

💪 TODAY IS NATIONAL FITNESS DAY! 💪

Today is a reminder that improving your fitness doesn’t have to begin with a huge challenge or a complete lifestyle overhaul.

It can start with a short walk, a home workout, joining a class or simply choosing to move a little more than you did yesterday. It doesn’t matter how large or small that first step is—the important thing is that you take it.

And if you’d like to begin working on your fitness through martial arts, we’d love to help you get started. Martial arts can improve your strength, fitness and confidence while allowing you to learn new skills and become part of a supportive community.

🥊 Your first session at The Spartan Gym is completely FREE.

Send us a message to book your place and take that first step today.

Your journey. Your effort. Your fitness. Powered by you.

A LOT OF MEN ARE SURROUNDED BY PEOPLE… BUT STILL FEEL COMPLETELY ALONE.

We’re more connected than we’ve ever been through phones and social media, yet genuine connection between men seems to be disappearing.

Fewer close friendships. Fewer places to belong. Fewer opportunities to spend time alongside other men, working towards something together.

And I think we underestimate how important that is.

Men need brotherhood. We need a tribe of good men around us who will push us, challenge us, have a laugh with us, listen when things are difficult and notice when we’re not ourselves.

That’s one of the things I love most about what we’re building at The Spartan Gym.

As much as people come here to learn martial arts, get fitter and become stronger. But somewhere between the rounds on the pads, the hard sessions and the conversations before and after training, friendships are formed and people start to feel like they belong to something again.

You still have to face your own challenges.

But life becomes a little easier when you’ve got good men standing beside you while you do it.

Find your tribe. Build your brotherhood. Don’t try to do everything alone. 👊🥊
