This week, pupils have been busy exploring life in the Stone Age! 📜They investigated how tools developed over time, gaining a deeper understanding of how early humans adapted. In English, they completed their first publishing lesson, proudly presenting their work to a high standard. 📖Meanwhile, in maths, they used a range of concrete resources to support their learning and develop their understanding of key concepts.

Our Year 6 pupils read ‘In Flanders Fields’ and learnt how to analyse the poem's features and discuss deeper meaning, developing their understanding of the themes and messages behind this famous piece of writing.

They also worked collaboratively in groups to create their own original verses, drawing inspiration from the poem's style and structure. Finishing the unit, Year 6 confidently performed their poems to their classmates, showcasing their creativity, teamwork and speaking skills. 🌟

In computing lessons, pupils in 5JH built on their previous learning about what makes an effective quiz by creating their own interactive quizzes. Using the 2Quiz tool on Purple Mash, the children explored a range of pre-made questions and carefully selected the most suitable question types for their quizzes. They demonstrated great creativity, logical thinking and digital skills as they designed engaging challenges for others to complete!

As part of their science topic on the circulatory system, our Year 6 pupils designed and carried out their own investigation to explore how exercise affects heart rate.

The group completed a range of different physical activities before measuring and recording their heartbeat after each one. After analysing their results, they discovered that running caused the greatest increase in heart rate!

A fantastic hands-on experiment that helped bring their learning to life while developing their scientific enquiry skills! 🔬📊👏
