📢 Supporting Anxious Returners

Is your child feeling anxious about returning to school? You're not alone.

Last week our planning permission was approved...
The works on the new build have begun!
The gravel yard will become the HQ of the operations. (We know many children have enjoyed a game of footy on the gravel yard- sadly this spot is no more!)
The entrance to school is being widened to allow for safe entry and exit of site traffic.
Hoarding is going up around the site.
We have been asked a few times about visits to the site before we close and when the time is right, we will arrange farewell tours.

Parents/carers have been emailed our uniform expectations today. This includes PE kit which has not been consistent in all year groups.

We want to thank our community for working closely with us in maintaining the highest standards of uniform.

We also want to thank Gentoo Group who have supported us with funding for a community uniform store.

If you have any unwanted uniform to donate we would appreciate it. It can be dropped into our school office on 1st and 2nd September from 8.30am til 4pm.

Great day with Barnes Junior School !

Well done Barnes Junior School!!

It has been wonderful to welcome Amir Ali from Sunderland Bangladesh International Centre to Thornhill. Sunderland Bangladesh International Centre

Mr. Ali has been working with some of our RE students, sharing his knowledge and experiences of Islam to enrich their learning. At Thornhill, students study three of the world's major religions Christianity, Islam and Sikhism as part of a Religious Education curriculum that encourages ethical debate, critical thinking and an understanding of different beliefs and cultures.

Religious Education is a popular subject at Thornhill, and we are proud that our Head of Department, Mr. Rice, has been supporting a national RE project to develop new teaching resources. We are also proud to work closely with St Nicholas Church, Sunderland and Andy from Youth for Christ.

To bring learning to life, all of our students also have the opportunity to visit a church, a mosque and a gurdwara, helping them to deepen their understanding through first-hand experiences.

A huge thank you to Mr. Ali for giving his time and expertise to support our students. We look forward to welcoming him back in the future!

We are also delighted that Miss Tench will be looking after our new Year 7 entrants, alongside our fantastic Pastoral Manager, Mrs Wright. 🤝😊 Together, they'll ensure every student receives a warm welcome and the support they need to thrive. 🌈
