This week at Fairy House our theme was Science and Peace.
The children explored colours, reactions, kindness, and calm moments through creative, sensory, and mindful activities.
We experimented with rainbows made from Skittles, watched hidden colours appear on paper with water, and explored how colours travel and blend on our peace symbols. The children also created beautiful peace signs with dot markers and experienced calm focus while making their own mini Japanese Zen gardens.
We shared the story Have You Filled a Bucket Today? and talked about how kindness can fill our hearts and those of others. Together we filled our Fairy House Kindness Jar with kind actions and caring thoughts.
Our week was also full of outdoor fun, where teamwork, laughter, and movement helped us grow stronger and more connected.
At Fairy House, learning happens through discovery, creativity, and empathy — nurturing not only bright minds but peaceful, kind hearts.
We currently have limited spaces available for new families who wish to join our calm, creative, and nature-inspired learning environment.

🌟 This week at Fairy House 🌟

We’ve had a wonderful week filled with imagination, discovery, and fun — exploring two magical themes! 💫

🚀 Our older children went on a space adventure, where they:

Matched space-themed pictures
Drew patterns in moon sand and shaped it using moon and star cutters 🌙✨
Crashed “asteroids” made from hard playdough ☄️
Mixed colours to create purple playdough like a galaxy swirl 🌌
Took part in a lovely cookery session making their very own fresh pesto! 🧄🌿

🐄 Our younger children explored life on the farm with a week full of sensory and musical fun:

They painted with farm animal footprints using toy figures 🎨🐾
Played in a themed sensory tray with corn, cereals, grass and animals 🌽🍂
Wore farm animal masks and sang along to "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" — with plenty of animal sounds and giggles! 🎶🐓🐮
Stretched and moved in Farm Animals Yoga, pretending to be pigs, cows, and hens 🧘‍♀️🐷

The big day is nearly here — on 22nd April, Fairy House will begin welcoming our first little ones for their settling-in sessions! 💫

We know that starting a new setting is a big step, not just for children but for parents too — and we’re here to make it as gentle and positive as possible for everyone.

Here are a few simple ways you can help your child feel more at ease during this transition:

✨ Talk about what’s coming
Start chatting about Fairy House in your everyday conversations. Mention the names they’ll hear (like Cinzia and Filomena!), the toys, the cosy rooms, and even our friendly cats, Luna and Inky. Familiar words and ideas can make a big difference on the first day.

🧸 Bring comfort from home
A cuddly toy, a blanket, or even a family photo can offer lots of emotional reassurance in a new environment.

📷 Send us family photos
We love to display pictures of each child’s family in the play space. It helps create a feeling of home and comfort throughout the day.

💛 Every child settles at their own pace
There’s no rush. We’ll go slowly, always following your child’s cues and comfort levels — and keeping you closely involved every step of the way.

Music, Rhythm & Rhyme at Fairy House Childminder

At Fairy House, music is a magical part of our weekly routine. With colourful instruments, song cards, and finger puppets, children explore rhythm, sound, and movement in an engaging and joyful way.

Musical play supports so many areas of early development:
🎶 Language & communication– Through singing and repeating familiar rhymes
✋ Fine motor skills– As little hands tap, shake, and play instruments

Seaside Adventures… Right in Our Tuff Tray!

Today at Fairy House Childminder, we brought the beach to our conservatory with this sandy sensory invitation!
Shells, sand, tools, and water wheels turn this tray into a hands-on ocean adventure, perfect for sparking little imaginations and supporting key areas of development.

Through this activity, children explored:

🐚 Sensory play– Feeling different textures like smooth shells and soft sand helps develop sensory awareness
⛱️ Imaginative play – Creating stories, digging, and “watering” the sand supports language and creativity
🧠 Cognitive skills – Sorting shells, scooping, and pouring builds problem-solving and early maths
✋ Fine motor strength– All that digging and raking gives tiny hands a powerful workout!

Springtime Science and Fine Motor Fun!

At Fairy House Childminder, we turned a simple tuff tray into a blooming learning opportunity!

Using real sticks, cotton pads, pipettes, and natural flower-coloured water, the children explored:

🌿 Creativity & imagination – decorating their "tree" with beautiful blossoms using gentle drops of colour
🌿 Science in nature – noticing how natural materials absorb water and change colour
🌿 Fine motor development – strengthening little fingers through careful squeezing and releasing of pipettes
🌿 Seasonal awareness – connecting with the beauty of spring through hands-on play

This kind of activity sparks wonder, encourages concentration, and helps children connect deeply with the world around them.
