Let the deep clean commence…

Here at Pomfrett Cottage Nursery we take hygiene to the next level 💪🏻

When we clean it isn’t just about making our space look spotless, it’s about creating a safe, fresh, and healthy environment for your children to grow and play.

From sanitising floors and rugs to carefully cleaning toys, shelves, changing areas, and those often missed corners, every detail matters.

Our nursery deep clean goes beyond the basics, helping to reduce germs, remove built-up dirt, and leaves every area feeling beautifully clean and cared for and smells incredibly fresh.

It’s quite a therapeutic watch…now back to the paperwork Sonia!

🌟 We Have Something Amazing to Celebrate! 🌟

With the biggest smiles and the proudest hearts, we are thrilled to share that our setting has been awarded STRONG in ALL SIX AREAS by OFSTED 🎉

This incredible achievement is a true reflection of the love, dedication, and passion that goes into everything we do. Every day, we create a nurturing, inspiring, and happy environment where children feel safe, valued, and encouraged to thrive.

We are incredibly proud to announce that we are the only Early Years setting in the Spelthorne borough to achieve this grading across all six areas to date, a milestone that means so much to our entire Pomfrett family 🏆

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing children, our supportive families, and my dedicated team. The trust, encouragement, and commitment have helped us all reach this wonderful achievement.

We are so proud of what we have built together over the last 12mths and are extreamely excited to continue providing the very best start for every child in our care💛

Here’s to celebrating the team, our children, and our amazing early years community 🎊

MEET THE OWNER… and the story behind Pomfrett Cottage Nursery.

If you’re new to our page, let me introduce myself…

I’m Sonia, and my journey with Pomfrett Cottage Nursery began long before I became its owner.

Twenty one years ago, this nursery was about to close its doors forever.

Today, it continues to thrive, with generations of families walking through those same doors, and I still pinch myself that I get to be part of its story.

When my children were little, I worked as a childminder, and both of my grown-up children now aged 34 & 26 attended Pomfrett Cottage Nursery. It was a place that held so many happy memories for our family.

In 2004, when my son was in his final year, the previous owner, Sue Abrook, who has known me since I was just five years old, made the difficult decision to retire from nursery life and close.

The thought of our community losing such a special place simply didn’t sit right with me.

So, I asked Sue if she would trust me to continue her legacy.

She said YES 🥳

I then studied for 12mths to gain my Level 3 qualification in Early Years Care and Education. Sadly my beloved grandmother at the age of 99 passed during this time which changed everything, she left me a small gift which enabled me to purchase the nursery and I proudly became its new owner in August 2005.

Just one year later, in 2006, we were invited to move into Chennestone Primary School, giving us a larger classroom and outdoor learning space where your children continued to flourish.

Over the past 21 years, we’ve grown from offering morning sessions to full-day, term-time care. We’ve watched hundreds of children learn, laugh, grow in confidence and head off to school ready for their next adventure.

I’ve also been fortunate to work alongside some incredible staff, many of whom have gone on to achieve wonderful things.

The last 12 months have been one of our biggest chapters to date.

As a team of 3 in September 2025 we challenged ourselves to become even better. We reflected on every part of our practice, revisited our why, strengthened our curriculum and continued to build the calm, nurturing environment that has always been at the heart of everything we do.

Today, as a team of 4 we bring together an exceptional level of Early Years qualifications and SEND qualifications, to include two EY teachers, a Primary teacher and our Level 6 deputy who will begin her EY teaching studies in September. More importantly, we share the same values, the same passion and the same commitment to giving every child the very best start in life. We are whole heartedly committed to making a difference.

Together, we’ve created a nursery where children feel safe, valued, confident and excited to learn every single day.

If you’re a past or present Pomfrett Cottage family, we’d love to hear from you. Share your favourite memory in the comments 💙

What a truly special Nursery Graduation yesterday afternoon 🎓💙

The children looked absolutely fabulous and made us all so proud. Watching their confidence shine and seeing how much they’ve grown has been such a privilege.

There were plenty of smiles, lots of laughter… and yes, I cried, the parents cried it was definitely an emotional day!

A huge thank you to my amazing team for all their hard work, dedication and love. You make such a difference every single day, and today was a wonderful celebration of everything you’ve helped these children achieve.

To all our wonderful graduates, we are so proud of you and can’t wait to see all the amazing things you’ll do on your next adventure.

Good luck, and remember you’ll always be part of our nursery family 💫

☀️ Important Notice to Our Nursery Families ☀️

As temperatures are expected to rise significantly today and tomorrow, we wanted to update all parents and carers.

Following current government guidance, the nursery will remain open and my amazing team will continue doing everything we can to keep the children comfortable and safe. We are keeping the room as cool as possible, encouraging regular drinks, and adapting activities throughout the day.

In line with our commitment to children’s health, safety and wellbeing under the EYFS, if you are able to keep your child at home during the hottest part of the weather, you may feel it is more comfortable for them to do so.

We completely understand that many families still need childcare and we are absolutely here to support you as normal. This message is shared simply to help families make the best decision for their child during the extreme heat.

Thank you, as always, for your understanding and support 💛

Today we welcomed Ofsted….our Ofsted inspection has now come to an end and the inspector has officially left the building ✨

I would like to say a huge thank you to my amazing team, wonderful children and supportive families throughout the process. We are incredibly proud of everyone involved 🙏🏻

For now, we have to keep the official outcome under wraps until the report is released in the next 14 days… but we couldn’t be prouder of everyone involved 🎉

Thank you again for all your continued support 😊

☀️ Important Hot Weather Information for Parents & Carers ☀️

With an extremely hot weather forecast this week, we kindly ask all parents and carers to help us ensure children remain safe, comfortable, and protected whilst attending nursery.

Please ensure your child arrives each day with:

💧 A full, clearly named water bottle
🧢 A sun hat
👕 Loose-fitting, lightweight clothing suitable for hot weather and appropriate footwear
🧴 Sun cream applied before arrival at nursery

For children attending a full day session, nursery staff will reapply sun cream in accordance with our sun safety procedures and parental permissions.

The safety, health and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. In line with our safeguarding responsibilities and the EYFS requirements to promote children's good health and manage risks effectively, we will be taking additional precautions during periods of extreme heat.

These include:

☀️ Encouraging regular hydration throughout the day
☀️ Providing access to shaded areas and cooler environments
☀️ Adjusting outdoor play times where necessary to avoid peak temperatures
☀️ Monitoring children closely for signs of overheating or discomfort
☀️ Supporting children to rest and cool down as needed

We appreciate your support in helping us keep all children safe during this period of hot weather. By working together, we can ensure children continue to enjoy their day whilst remaining protected from the effects of the sun and high temperatures.

Thank you for your co-operation.

**Please note**
If you decide to keep your child at home due to the hot weather, we ask that you notify the nursery and follow our usual absence reporting procedures in line with our attendance and safeguarding policies.
