I have been looking forward to getting back to open water swimming for a while. Actually managed it on Tuesday!

Sometimes life just gets a bit hectic and need to think about how you can look after your own wellbeing as well as those of your family.

Open water swimming is something that really helps me to relax. I haven’t entered any events this year. Just enjoying getting into the water, savouring the moment rather than thinking of things I need to do. 🧜‍♀️🌞

Super proud of Jessica this week. At the beginning of the school holidays she was really anxious about riding her bike with the pedals back on.

She generally has little fear of most things in life but cycling was a sticking point.

This week we have been out early every morning in the local park and she has cracked it. 👏👏💪🚴‍♀️

Jessica is so determined and really wanted to get cycling. After facing her fear and not avoiding going on her bike any more, she now loves it.

She now wants me to book her another lesson at the Colchester bike track to help her get some more cycling skills 😊

There are so many rewards from putting yourself out of your comfort zone.

Challenge yourself this week and try something new. Remember to really process your achievements and be proud of yourself.

Parkrun day! I love Saturday mornings. Doing a Parkrun is a great way to start the weekend off.

After completing my marathon, I am now able to do this without having to combine with a longer run or a ‘Parkrun sandwich!’

The current aim is to get faster after long distance endurance pace and a hamstring injury.

I’m a few minutes slower than I was this time last year, but that ok. It’s just about persistent effort and not giving up. I know I will get there in the end.

Yes it was tough today in the heat and 5km seemed like much further, but I got round and did over 30 seconds faster than last week.

A few important things to consider that I have learnt over the years 👇

🔹 Don’t compare yourself to others
🔹Maintain a positive mindset
🔹Watch that self talk and let it help you not hinder you to achieve your goals.
🔹 If you believe you can then you will 💪
🔹 Small wins are important on the road to achieving bigger goals
🔹The body is capable of far more than you think.

It might be a belief you can’t run or can’t run further than 5 km. It might be a belief you can’t do open water swimming or you can’t enter an event because you are worried of not being able to complete it. You may be worrying about going to the gym because you think people might be looking at you and judging you.

These are all limiting beliefs that can be overcome. If there are fitness goals you would love to achieve but your mind is stopping you, get in touch for a chat.

I did my second triathlon of the season yesterday. It was a local sprint triathlon involving a 300 m swim in a pool, a 21 km bike ride and 4.2 km run.

Perhaps many of you think, I couldn’t do a triathlon or believe you aren’t a good enough swimmer or fast enough on your bike.

Just wanted to do some myth busting to help challenge some of those beliefs stopping you giving triathlons a go. 👇

🔹You don’t have to swim front crawl, you can swim it all breast stroke if you like

🔹You don’t need a road bike with cleats. You can use a hybrid or mountain bike if you like

🔹It doesn’t matter if you need to walk on the run section

🔹You are never too old to give triathlons a go

🔹You don’t need to spend loads of money on fancy equipment

🔹You don’t need to swim in open water. There are lots of pool based triathlons like the one I did.

I love doing triathlons as it’s a great community of ‘can do’ positive individuals. I have made brilliant friends from joining a triathlon club and giving things a go that I never would have believed were possible 10 years ago.

I am not particularly fast, but it really doesn’t matter. I enjoy trying to be the best I can be, not comparing myself to others.

The most important thing is your mental attitude and your self belief. If you believe you can, then you will.

If your mind tells you that you can’t do something then it’s not going to happen. YOU decide what YOU want to happen.

Challenge any unhelpful beliefs that are stopping you giving new things a go.

The magic in life always happens when you leave that comfort zone.

First on the beach this morning with my daughter.

Being by the sea is my happy place. There is something about blue spaces that give you a wellbeing boost.

Love listening to the sound of the waves and the water swirling around the rock pools.

Just being in nature whether green or blue spaces helps clear your head and get perspective back.

Off to tomorrow for a swim then perhaps a bike ride in the evening before my triathlon on Sunday at Culford

Amazing afternoon swimming at Durdle Door Beach.

Perfect weather and sea nice and calm. I always take my tow float whenever I do any open water swimming. Keeps you safe and seen.

First sea swim this year. Looking forward to swimming this weekend and doing the first open water Swim Confident course with .moye.3 from Swimhow.
