Dorset Short Break Activity Days are designed for young people aged 7–17 with mild to moderate disabilities. Our sessions provide opportunities to have fun, try new activities, build confidence, and make new friendships in a supportive environment.

Always learning - Blake class went to Carey Camp 🏕️ to pick up some Bell Tents for Yewstock School. They had to count the equipment and learn how to put them up ready for DofE next year!

Today some of Woodlands students had the opportunity to go to Todber lakes to experience some fishing.

Plenty of fish caught and lots of happy smiles. Most of the students enjoyed having a go and joining in, a lovely time had by all.

We caught a bream but Mr Maher let him get away ;)

Year 11 Adventure Week - Day 5

Our final morning. Students were sleepy this morning. We ate breakfast, washed up and packed our bags ready to leave. Students did a great job packing and tidying their rooms - some rooms needed a lot of tidying!
We looked at the photos from the week and got loaded onto the buses to return to school.

Year 11 Adventure Week - Day 4. Post 2

What a day! Breakfast and wash up, followed by lunch making and clear up. We walked and wheeled to the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, put on our wetsuits and sailed the Funboats. But half-way through, the wind completely stopped and we all had to be towed back to shore. We did our final pontoon jumping and quickly got changed to catch the open top bus to Portland Bill. Suddenly, as we were about to catch the bus, a heavy fog descended and we couldn’t see anything around us.
We got to the Bill and ate our lunch and the fog gradually started to lift. We toured the area and scrambled, climbed and explored around the rocks as we went. We visited the cafe and gift shop for ice creams, drinks and souvenirs and got back on the open top bus.
We arrived back at the hotel and immediately went to the small beach outside. We swam, caught crabs, built sandcastles and had a lovely time.
Then we went to shower and change and ate dinner with ice cream for pudding. After dinner, we reminisced about the week, everyone took it in turns to details their favourite and most challenging moments and tell funny stories from the week.
We stayed up late, thoroughly enjoying each other’s company, with non-stop laughter for hours! What a wonderful way to finish the week. We are so proud of the fantastic group of young people we have!
Back home tomorrow morning.

Year 11 Adventure Week - Day 4. Post 1

Year 11 Adventure Week - Day 3 - Post 2.
Our busiest day today started with a big breakfast followed by washing up duties and making lunches. We went to Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy and students learned how to helm a power boat and sail a keelboat, which was very exciting! We ate lunch and then caught the bus further onto Portland and visited a big park, which all the students loved! They all played together for hours, making up games (which staff couldn’t resist too) and having so much fun together. We caught the bus back to the hotel to shower and enjoy some mobile phone time together. We ate another delicious dinner and headed to the bus stop again to go into Weymouth. In Weymouth, we walked along the seafront and visited the arcades, which students absolutely loved! They played for hours and didn’t want to leave! We left as it was getting dark and headed back to the hotel on the bus. We arrived at the hotel quite late and some students watched the end of the England football match before going to bed. Another great day, we are so proud of all the students.
