🎨 A little bit of good news for anyone who missed out on Patrick Byrnes’ September workshop: two spaces have become available!

Patrick will be with us in Stroud for four days of alla prima portrait painting from life, working with a limited palette and covering drawing, colour mixing, form and light along the way.

Huge congratulations to our wonderful tutor , whose work is included in this year’s Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery.

Lizet is a hugely talented artist and a much-loved part of Raw Umber, and it’s wonderful to see her work recognised in such a prestigious exhibition.

The exhibition is on in London until 7 October 2026, and entry is free. You can also vote in the Visitors’

Learning from the Masters: Landscape Painting with Phoebe Stewart Carter

Join artist Phoebe Stewart Carter for a studio-based landscape painting workshop at Raw Umber Studios.

In this three-hour class, students will create small master copies inspired by celebrated 19th-century landscape painters, exploring composition, value, colour, depth and picture-making.

Reference materials will be provided, and students will begin with graphite compositional studies before developing an A4 oil paint study.

It’s a very thoughtful piece following Cornelia’s process and her connection to landscape, memory and materials; really lovely if you enjoy seeing how a painting slowly comes together!
