Fay Reynolds School of Dancing is a small, friendly dance school that has been offering fun dance classes for children and teenagers since 1998, with the option of entering for ISTD examinations in Tap, Modern and Jazz.

This time next week, I will be hanging up my dancing shoes and closing my dance school.

It has been such a pleasure to teach dance to so many pupils over the years and I feel very lucky to have followed and made a success of my dream.

I have been teaching dance for 31 years and have run my own dance school for 25 years. I have entered nearly 1000 pupils for exams and put on 8 shows. It has been so rewarding watching each pupil, from learning how to skip and shuffle ball change, to mastering wings and beautiful split runs. I have truly loved every single week, day and class but feel now it the right time for a new venture.

I would like to thank all my dancers and their families past and present for their amazing support for so many years.

Quoted in an email to me this week from an ex pupil “although the dance school might be physically closing - I think there is a little bit of you and your dance schools magic that lives on in everyone you have taught”.

Please keep dancing and follow your dreams, whatever they may be.

This week, 25 years ago, Fay Reynolds School of Dancing was established. I started my little dance school with 3 classes in Chipping Sodbury on Tuesday 21st April 1998 and then in September 1998 took over the dance school in Nailsworth. (Sadly I closed my school in Chipping Sodbury after 10 years in 2008).

In the last 25 years I have entered 961 candidates for exams (yes, I’ve been counting), ranging from Pre-Primary to Intermediate with 100% pass rate (the majority being Merits and Distinctions) and I have choreographed, produced and directed 8 shows. On a personal note I have got married, had 2 children, moved house and just about survived a pandemic! I have taught and am still teaching my daughter, niece and cousin (and also taught my son and nephew for a while too).

I have taught so many amazing children, teens, young adults and adult tappers over the years (I’ve taught dancers at age 3 and I am now teaching their children!), I’ve met some wonderfully supportive families and would like to thank each and every one of them, whether you danced with me for a term or started with me aged 3 and said a fond farewell at 18 before heading off to university, you all hold a special place in my heart and are often remembered, especially when sorting through past show costumes.

There are too many people to thank over the years but I really couldn’t have done it without the support of my amazing mum and her many, many talents, to name a few - top costume seamstress, exam day hair dresser, tech wiz, music editor and all round supporter of me and my venture. Also a huge thank you to Miss Laura who has been around the majority of my 25 years either as a pupil or a teacher and helps bring my ideas to life and basically makes my life easier especially with show choreography. I would also like to thank (and I apologise if I’ve missed anyone) Mark, Finley, Lexie, Dad, Sarah, Sam, my Adult Tappers past and present and all my Saturday Assistants past and present.

So Thursday we said another sad goodbye 😢 this time to Lauren 💖
Lauren has a passion for dance and is the most beautiful dancer. She started dancing with me about 13 years ago and will be greatly missed. As well as our shows and exams , she has taken part in many school dance competitions and is amazing at contributing to choreography too.
Have a fantastic time at Uni Lauren, don’t forget to come back and visit us 💞💃🤩👯‍♀️

So proud of these 2 💖 As well as working their socks off for our recent show, Emma and Lauren have also been working hard for their Grade 6 Modern Exam, which they took yesterday.
Grade 6 is the last grade before taking vocational exams and earns UCAS points for University applications.
Let’s hope the results come through quickly 🤞🍀🤞🍀

So yesterday the time came to say goodbye to this incredible young woman, Izzy 😢
Between her older sister Hannah and herself, her lovely family has been supporting me and the dance school for 19 YEARS 🥰
Izzy is a beautiful dancer with a wonderful personality, a pleasure to teach and will be very missed.
Have a fantastic time at Uni (I know you will 😂) you are going to make an amazing Paramedic Izzy 😘
