Hello to All our Gardening Friends,
We hope you have all had a good summer and enjoyed your gardens to the max this year? This is just a reminder to cover all your non-hardy perennials before the worst of the winter sets in. Protecting bulbs and tender plants by mulching will keep them warmer, and, if you use a covering of plastic or breathable membrane under the mulch around the rootzone this will keep the excess water away which will help stop the bulbs or roots from rotting. We have hedgehogs this year (a new brood of five in the spring) so we must provide some winter shelters for them before they hibernate. We should have plenty of leaves/sticks/wood to make humble shelters which we are sure they will appreciate. And not to forget the birds - there is a glut of holly berries and rosehips in the hedgerows this year so please don't tidy your garden too much by trimming everything back. We have a lovely selection of birds this year, from blue-tits, finches, thrushes, blackbirds, nut hatches, jenny wrens, and a pair of woodpeckers - and now the fieldfares have arrived, so if you need any of your holly berries, get them now, or they will soon be gone!
We are now getting ready to hibernate ourselves, but Christmas is coming and we will have a range of Christmas wreaths to jolly your door, or be used as memorial offerings for those loved ones we have lost. If you have any special requests, please let us know.
