Keeping children safe online - with Police Scotland and Education Scotland - Wednesday 23 September,12-1pm or 5:30-6:30pm, online

This webinar is being delivered in partnership by Parenting Across Scotland, Police Scotland's Cybercrime Harm Prevention Team and Education Scotland. There will be a short presentation by Police Scotland exploring how you can help keep yourself and your loved ones safe whilst online, followed by Education Scotland discussing concerns about the use of technology in schools and digital awareness in the curriculum, then an opportunity to ask questions.

The Biology department welcomed guests from the Roslin Institute in school last week.

They ran a lab session for higher pupils using advanced techniques and equipment. Students enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to use specialised apparatus not available to them in school. They also made the most of speaking to researchers about their career pathways, who knows, we might have the next Rosalind Franklin in school!

Thank you for making the trip north and we look forward to future visits!

Senior Volleyball Festival

On Monday 29th of June pupils from Stromness Academy travelled to Picky to play in a S4-S6 volleyball festival with teams from KGS.

It was a fantastic day, with top quality volleyball played. A great end to the 25/26 season and wets the appetite for the next season.

Congratulations to our S5/6 boys team who were undefeated on the day and took home the spoils.

Thank you to KGS for organising and to the staff at The Pickaquoy Centre for hosting us.

As we near the end of term, we are looking to get any overdue library books and textbooks returned. Please could you check for school books at home and arrange for them to be returned or renewed.
Note, Maths and English textbooks borrowed via the library should be returned there. Thank you.

Students from all over the country took part in the S1/2 Maths competition above recently. The questions are designed to challenge students and to develop problem solving skills. Pictured are Stromness Academy's winners.

Now that the tablecloths are washed, the fairy lights are packed away, and the drapes are back in storage, we would like to once again congratulate all of our Senior Phase Celebration Evening 2026 award winners.

Pupils were recognised for their achievements and endeavour across the school. Special Endeavour Awards were also presented to those who demonstrated outstanding leadership and made significant contributions to the wider school community. The Dux Award was presented to the pupil who achieved the highest academic attainment in 2025. The evening concluded with the school's highest honour, the Stephen Crawford Memorial Prize, awarded to a pupil who has shown exceptional commitment to the wider life of the school.

We would also like to thank everyone who helped make the event such a lovely evening, including our guest speaker, Cameron McConnachie, the generous Parent Council, and our talented musicians.
