Maths and English with Cathy

Results day has its ups and downs and it's always hard when people don't quite achieve what they deserve, after months of hard work.

However, many of my GCSE students have blown me away today. For some of them that means getting a grade 3, for others that coveted grade 4. For a few, it's getting a grade 7 or 8. Success comes in many forms.

I'm so very proud (and a bit emotional) and have been reminded of why doing this job is such a privilege.

It's GCSE results day tomorrow, although not everyone is counting down the hours
I knew last year's year 11 boys were relaxed but even I was surprised by my encounter with one of them at the gym, yesterday. "How are you feeling about Thursday?' I asked. "What's happening on Thursday?" he replied!
Perhaps he has the best attitude. The results you get tomorrow are just a starting point for the next step. They don't define you or necessarily reflect the effort you put into your exams, even if you were incredibly relaxed about the whole thing.
So Good Luck to all of you- I'm proud of every single one of you.

Good luck to everone starting exams this week, but especially my students taking their GCSE English and maths, and my eldest son who starts A Levels on Friday.
Just for fun, I'm predicting a question on the theme of the supernatural in Macbeth and family/ children in A Christmas Carol. However, I'm rarely correct!

I was very happy to be at Crispin Academy's Celebration Assembly today, as I got to see two of my fabulous year 11 students get awards- one for English and one a Headteacher's Award. I'm always proud of how hard my students work, especially as GCSE time approaches, so it was particularly pleasing to see them both rewarded ❤️

I'm hopping on the AI trend to reintroduce myself.
I've been a home tutor for 10 years (the anniversary is actually in April), but have been teaching for 25 years. I love working with students one to one to help them unlock their full potential.
I have a degree in English Language and Literature, but completed my PGCE teaching maths. This means I can support students in both subjects.
I initially specialised in teaching in post-16 education and still work in the sector. I am Curriculum Coordinator and Functional Skills tutor at Train4All Construction & Engineering Academy, a fantastic training provider based in Somerton.
Tutoring is a part-time job for me, which means I am only able to take on a limited number of students. I am already fully booked for the next two years and extremely grateful to be so busy.

It's the first day of the Christmas holidays for me and all my students- I think we can all agree we've all earned our two week break!

It's been a very busy term but I'm always grateful to have such an amazing job working with so many fantastic young people. Despite taking on more students than ever, I have had to turn away so many because I simply cannot take on any more. I always do this with a heavy heart, so this is your annual reminder to begin looking for a tutor before year 11 starts if you think it's something you wish to consider.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and the happiest of New Years 🎄🎅 (and don't forget to do some Christmas Carol revision by watching my favourite film version...)

A little message for everyone getting their GCSE results today ❤️
Despite facing some huge challenges over the last 6 years, you have all worked so hard and today is just the beginning of a fabulous new adventure. Results will not define you but your amazing attitudes and resilience will.
I can't wait to find out how all my students have done. I'm so proud of you all ❤️
