🇫🇷🇩🇪🇪🇸My languages journey🇫🇷🇩🇪🇪🇸
I started learning French in S1. I instantly loved it and was delighted to win the Speaking prize at the end of the year. In S2, German was added and again I really enjoyed it! After doing my Highers in French and German, I had the opportunity to do a crash Higher Spanish in S6. I had a native speaker as my teacher who spoke to us in Spanish the whole time and didn’t let us see any written language for months! It was quite an extreme method but it was so exciting and challenging. I just completely fell in love with the language.
I chose to study Interpreting and Translation at university with German and Spanish (with French as an elective in 1st and 2nd year). Studying Spanish was intimidating as many of my fellow students had been studying it for much, much longer than me. My year abroad was the making of me as a person, but also such an amazing opportunity to improve my language skills. Although most of the people I met in Germany weren’t native speakers, my German definitely improved. The months I spent in Soria were the perfect opportunity for me to properly bring my Spanish up to standard. By the time I left, I felt confident that I had reached a high level of proficiency. I was dreaming in Spanish and unable to find my words in English when I was on the phone! After my degree, teaching seemed a natural choice as I got on well with young people and I wanted a job in which I could help people. During my career, I have taught both languages but most years my timetable consisted of mostly Spanish up to Higher level. I love helping people start their language learning journey, get the hang of pronunciation, work out how the grammar works, gain confidence and experience the same joy I had when I was getting to grips with the language.

I’m offering 2 hour intensive beginner sessions this summer (see previous posts). You don’t need to have a Spanish holiday booked to come along!
