At forest school today the children played in the mud kitchen using the coloured water to make varied pretend food items and used twigs to stir their mixtures together.
We heard a crow in the trees and the children used the binoculars and listening skills to know where to look for the crow. They then made up a game to go look for a bear in the bamboo saying ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ to one another.
Some used random items to stack up by a tree to use as a step up to climb the tree,finding a great sense of achievement when he got to the top.
When looking for the Crow, we found a blackberry bush full of blackberries but we saw they were not ripened yet as they were still green. We spoke about how they change colour when they are ripe going from green to purple/ black. 🌞

This week in forest school the children were using cut up pool noodles as donuts, we mixed soil and water for chocolate icing and added dried up pumpkin seeds for toppings.
They explored the trees to climb and used them as a train, pretending they were going on holiday. They used the continuous provision to draw what they would like and then the children all played together using the long branches in their imaginary play as a whole group. They tried to use the branches to reach how far up to the trees they could reach and used them as horses and walking sticks. They also enjoyed climbing on the tyres and planks.

This week in Forest school, children revisited using items themselves to make tea water, adding tea bags to the bottles and tarring the bag to get the loose tea out to make soups.
They climbed the new tree area learning where the foot holds were to get down by themselves, showing resilience and a can do attitude.
We all settled in another area where there is a mud kitchen and pallets to sit and use in various ways. The children decided to mix some mud and water to paint a log using a large paint brush adding soil and water to change the consistency. They then painted their hands and made hand prints onto the wooden pallets on the floor.

As a continuation from last weeks pirate fun, We had a pirate themed scavenger hunt. The children had to go look for pictures of items around the environment pirate themed.
They could then use any items found in their imaginary play games. Some children climbed a new tree taking the parrot with them to sit in the tree and fed it leaves in his beak, others returned to make soup and mud pies in the mud kitchen and some found very long branches measuring them to see how tall things are, seeing if it can reach the sky!

This week we found pirates in our forest school space. We talked about what pirates needed. The children’s ideas were a pirate ship, treasure and treasure maps!
So we spoke about how we could make our pirate ship. We all worked together to find long branches. The children used their arms to measure the length of the branches. We used a pallet for the boat and added branches to hold the material as a sail. ⛵️The children dressed up as pirates and we role played. There was a map on the boat so we walked the plank to shore to explore and find the treasure! 💰💎
Once the treasure was found the children brought it back to our 🏴‍☠️ pirate ship. They then were left to make their own games and explore the areas which they did.
We extended this by making individual maps in the classroom using felt tip pens to colour in the details of the map. Then aged them using tea bags.

This week children requested to revisit potion making using lots of coloured water and rice as well as materials from the forest areas. The children explored the new tarpaulin area to act out their role play ideas and choosing to hide some cones as treasure for the children to find. The children enjoyed lots of chasing games throughout the forest areas. We had lots of fun!!! 🌲 🌳 🏃‍♂️ 🧪

At forest school this week the children have been making magic potions using coloured water, rice, pasta, grass, leaves, mud and twigs to stir them all up in the mud kitchen. They found lots of bark coming off the wood slices, so the leader gave them hammers to explore how to get the bark off from the edges using tools. Another group mixed mud and water together to do mud painting using recycled materials. We explored the new growth at forest school looking at the flora and fauna.
