📚✨ Read for Good Readathon! ✨📚

For the next 4 weeks (22nd June – 15th July), Welcombe Hills School are on a mission to celebrate reading and raise money for charity! We have chosen Read for Good as they support access to books and storytellers for seriously ill children in hospital, as well as supporting schools (and more children) with reading (more information can be found here:

https://readforgood.org/

We want to make it as fun as possible, and we need your help to inspire our learners.

Here is what you need to know:

🧗‍♂️ Week 1 Challenge: Read in the most unusual or creative place! Under the table? In a blanket fort? In the pool?
📸 Please send us your photos!

A new challenge will appear each week. We're excited to see how you'll have fun with it!

🔖 Keep an eye out for a special bookmark and sponsor card coming home in school bags over the next few days.

🎧 ALL Reading Counts: Comics, magazines, and even listening to audiobooks or bedtime stories all count towards their goals!

💳 To avoid cash in school, please use our official page for any sponsorship money from family and friends:

☀️ Keeping Cool During the Heatwave ☀️

With temperatures set to rise over the coming days, we'll be taking extra steps across school to help keep our pupils safe, comfortable and happy while they learn and play.

Throughout the day, staff will encourage regular drinks, provide plenty of opportunities for hydration, and make good use of shaded areas around the school site. Outdoor activities may be adapted where needed, and we'll continue to monitor pupils closely to ensure everyone remains comfortable in the warm weather.

If possible, please send your child to school with a named sun hat and a named water bottle each day. These small things can make a big difference in helping pupils stay cool and protected while enjoying time outdoors.

Many of our pupils require support with applying suncream. If your child is bringing sunscreen into school for reapplication, please ensure it is clearly labelled with their name. We also ask that parents and carers complete the suncream care plan and consent form that was sent out via email, as staff can only assist with reapplication where consent has been provided.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to keep everyone safe in the sunshine. 💙

School Council 1 -0 Wobbly chairs

Our Welcombe Hills School Council have wasted no time getting stuck in… and their first mission? The dining hall chairs.

After some very honest feedback, it was agreed they weren’t quite up to the job. Too small, a bit wobbly, very weathered in appearance, and just not giving us a 'comfortable lunch' feel.

So, the council sorted it 💪🏼.

We now have brand new, sturdy chairs in the dining hall, and yes, they chose the colour themselves. A very beautiful bold blue, which we fully support 💙

It might seem like a small thing, but this is pupil voice in action! Spotting a problem, speaking up, and seeing change happen.

Not bad for their first project… we’re excited to see what they take on next 👀

Hydro was such a lovely place to be again today 💦

Some of the young learners from our Orange Class made the most of every second - splashing, stretching, and building confidence in the water during the brilliant sessions led by Ren and Michelle.

The smiles say it all. Hydro brings joy, progress, and a lot of fun rolled into one.

Moments like these are so important for our young learners for supporting movement, communication, and confidence in such a calm, nurturing space.

A huge thank you to Ren and Michelle for making each session so engaging and positive 🌊.

(and yes… there may have been some very enthusiastic splashes and many wipes of the camera lense along the way! 💛)

A little update from us 📣

Last term, we were really pleased to share our end-of-term newsletter. A lovely way to capture just some of the many moments that make Welcombe Hills what it is.

Going forward, we’ll be sending one out at the end of each term, giving you a snapshot of what’s been happening across the school.

From key focuses (including our continued push on reading), to achievements, activities, events and all those daily wins that mean so much... it’s all in there.

You can find the newsletter on Dojo and over on the school website, so do have a lil' look when you get a moment.

As always, there’s far more happening than we can ever fit into one place… but it’s a good start 💛

Welcome back everyone 💛

We are so happy to see so many smiling faces back through the doors at Welcombe Hills this morning, there’s something really lovely about that first day back after the Easter break.

Last term was a hugely successful one for our young learners, with so many brilliant achievements across the school. We were incredibly proud of the progress, confidence and determination shown by all.

As we head into the summer term, we’re continuing our strong focus on reading, building confidence, communication and a real love of stories in ways that work for every learner.

There’s lots to look forward to over the coming weeks, and we can’t wait to share more of those moments with you.

Here’s to another fantastic term ahead ✨

Such a lovely way to end the term 💛

We were so proud to celebrate some of our young learners last week as they received certificates for their achievements in maths, communication and reading.

These aren’t just certificates. They represent effort, perseverance, growing confidence, and those small (but actually very big) steps forward that we see every day in school.

For some, this might be speaking up a little more. For others, trying something new, and for many, it's simply showing up and giving it a go.

There were some very proud faces, and a real sense of “I did it” from the children … which is exactly what it’s all about.

And whilst we’re sharing just a few here (based on permissions), please know there are many, many more young people we are just as proud of 💛

A brilliant end to the term... we couldn’t be prouder of every single one of them 💫
