🌒 The eclipse is tonight!

Following our recent OEA newsletter article about former K.E.S. physics teacher Denis Dyson and his passion for astronomy, tonight seems a particularly fitting occasion to look to the skies.

A significant partial solar eclipse will be visible from the UK this evening, 12th August, and we’d love the K.E.S. community to help us mark it.

In Stratford-upon-Avon:
Eclipse begins: 6.15pm
Maximum eclipse: 7.12pm
Eclipse ends: 8.05pm

If you’re watching from Stratford, elsewhere in the UK or further afield, take a photo and send it to us at [email protected]. It could be a photograph of the eclipse itself, your viewing spot or you and your family watching together.

We hope to bring your photographs together to show where members of the K.E.S. community experienced the eclipse, while remembering Denis Dyson and his enthusiasm for astronomy.

And if you happen to be near K.E.S., keep an eye out. We’ll be watching from school too!

☀️ Please observe the Sun safely. Never look directly at the Sun without certified eclipse glasses or appropriate solar viewing equipment.

On the evening of the 12th of August, a spectacular partial solar eclipse will be visible across the UK.

The timing is particularly special for K.E.S.

Many of you will have read Richard Mallison’s recent article about former Physics teacher Denis Dyson, whose passion for astronomy inspired generations of students (Article can be read in the last newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/kes/kes-oea-newsletter-august-2026-1). By a wonderful coincidence, this eclipse arrives just as we celebrate his story.

If you’re watching the eclipse, wherever you are in the world, we’d love you to be part of it.

📷 Take a photograph of the eclipse (using appropriate eye protection and safe photography techniques) or of you and your family enjoying the event.

🌍 Whether you’re in Stratford-upon-Avon or other parts of the world, please share your photos in the comments below or send them to us. We’ll create a collage showing the K.E.S. community experiencing the eclipse together.

In Stratford-upon-Avon the eclipse is expected to be:
• Starting: 6.15pm
• Maximum: 7.12pm
• Ending: 8.05pm

Please remember never to look directly at the Sun without certified eclipse glasses or suitable solar filters.

Not long to go now until Saturday’s Shakespeare Birthday Parade and official re-opening of Manor Road Sports Ground 🎉

We’re really looking forward to welcoming so many of you back to K.E.S.

A reminder for those Old Edwardians taking part in the Shakespeare Birthday Parade, please meet at 10.00am in the Levi Fox Hall Foyer at School.

If you’re not already signed up, you are still very welcome to come along on the day. It will be a fantastic day, including an afternoon of sport, music and catching up with friends old and new.

What a response! We’re delighted that over 500 people are already planning to join us for the re-opening of Manor Road Sports Ground, with Old Edwardians from the Classes of 1959 right through to 2025 represented 🎉
