DofE Stranraer Academy A central information point for participants and parents involved with the Duke of Edinburgh Award a

Based at Stranraer Academy, the DofE program is open to all students over the age of 14. Initially students will enrol in the Bronze award, then each successive year progress into Silver, then finish at Gold. Some students may be considered for direct entry to a level, however this is at the discretion of the Award Level Leader.

SILVER PRACTICE DAY 1

Four seasons in one day! A challenging day with hailstones, sleet, snow, wind, and some sunshine, but our silver expedition are settled at their camp and are ready for two more days of traveling. The group kept good pace and good spirits. Hopefully it will be a drier day for them tomorrow.

Slovenia Expedition, Days 1 & 2: A challenging start climbing to 1650m of the Vsric pass, some navigation skills honed. Then dropping down into the beautiful limestone valley of the Soca river, clear turquoise water and big blue skys. Day two was a much warmer day, so took the opportunity to spend to break with a swim - cooled off for the last 2 hours of journey. Both teams into camp by 19:20. Currently at 700m, with climbing to 1625m planned today.

Scottish Highlands

What a week for our Gold participants hiking from Loch Lomond to the foot of Ben Nevis, sunshine gave way to torrential rain and cold, the teams showed their strengths and abilities well, supporting each other in incredibly challenging conditions. Well done. Their next expedition Slovenia in June.

2025 Calendars

The Gold DofE Team are selling their 2025 calendars this weekend at the Oyster Festival in the market marquee. All funds raised go to assist funding their overseas Qualifying expedition. Pop along and grab one, a perfect Christmas gift.

Calendars will be on sale at local businesses and the Academy from next week.

2023 AWARDS NIGHT

A night of celebration as our Bronze, Silver & Gold awards recipients from across S4-S6 received their DofE certificates and badges.

A total of 72 awards representing over 1500 hours of each section: volunteering, skills, and physical. Not to mention the many days (& nights) out in the great outdoors hiking and camping.

The awards were presented by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Wigtownshire, Alex Haswell.

Thank you to everyone who has helped support our young people in their award programs.

A big congratulations to all our recipients.
