🥁🌎 World Solo Drumming Success for Jacob!

A huge well done to Year 12 student Jacob, who headed over to Glasgow at the weekend to compete in another World Solo Drumming Championship at Caledonian University.

Jacob, who competes at the highest level in both band and solo drumming, enjoyed another fantastic result. In the qualifying round, Jacob secured 1st place with both judges, putting him straight through to the final. 👏

After an amazing performance in the final, Jacob finished an incredible 5th overall out of 22 drummers in his section placing him among the top solo drummers in the world! 🌎🥁🏆

What an achievement, Jacob! Your dedication, talent and hard work continue to shine through. We are incredibly proud of you! 👏

Our Year 8 pupils have completed their first practical project in Technology and Design! They developed a range of new skills while manufacturing their very own note holders.

Mrs Irwin's Art class has been practicing their watercolor skills over the last few weeks. Look at their beautiful finished paintings. Students were challenged to practice all of their knowledge of colour, including complimentary colours, adding light and shade. They were also encouraged to practice their watercolor techniques such as blending, colour wash and wet on dry. Mrs Irwin was so proud of all of 8I for being so ambitious. It is lovely to see such bright colours as we enter the darker evenings.

Year 14 Physics: Estimating Absolute Zero!

Our Year 14 Physics class recently put theory into practice by investigating Charles’ Law and estimating the temperature of absolute zero.

Working in pairs, pupils used a length of trapped air in a capillary tube to investigate the relationship between temperature and volume. By taking measurements at different temperatures and analysing their results, they were able to estimate absolute zero at approximately −273°C.

The investigation also linked their classroom learning to the history of science. Lord Kelvin (William Thomson), born in Belfast in 1824, developed the absolute temperature scale in 1848, with absolute zero defined as 0 K (−273.15°C).

This was a great example of practical physics in action, combining experimental skills and data analysis with an exploration of one of the most fundamental concepts in physics.

Well done to all 10 pupils for their teamwork, curiosity and scientific thinking!

🎟️ CHARITY RAFFLE – IN AID OF NIPANC!

As part of Thursday night’s Search for a Star performance, we will be holding a fantastic charity raffle in aid of NIPANC! 💜

We have some amazing prizes up for grabs, including vouchers from some brilliant local businesses! 🎁

👏 A huge thank you to all the local businesses, our staff and our PTFA for their kind donations and support. Your generosity is greatly appreciated and will help us raise vital funds for this fantastic cause.

IMPORTANT!

Search for a Star finalists have a full day dress rehearsal tomorrow (Tuesday 20th Oct). Pupils to get registered in form class and come to Alexander Hall for 910am.

Pupils can wear in their performance clothes or bring them in and use our changing facilities. Bring any props you need.

SEAG have opened a 2-day Emergency Registration Window at 8:00am on Monday 19 October 2026. The registration window will remain open until 11:59pm on Tuesday 20 October 2026.

This emergency registration period is intended for pupils who have not yet been registered for the SEAG Assessment and meet the criteria for late registration.

Please ensure any required registration is completed within this timeframe, as no further extensions may be available.
