Fuel-saving tips
With the rise in fuel prices, here's, some advice to help those profit margins
1, where safe avoid unnecessary stopping and moving off, if you ever needed to push a car you know the effort needed to get it moving, it’s the same for your engine, this is where a significant amount of fuel is used,
2, Plan ahead slow in good time to allow lights to change from red to green, all vehicles now have fuel injection days of Carburettors are long gone so coming off the gas early will shut off the fuel, see if you have the momentum to reach the junction or end of the queue, you may go some distance without needing any more energy,
3, As you slow there is no need to go through the gears each time you lift the clutch to engage fuel is sucked into the engine, hold the vehicle in the gear as you slow then select the gear needed to move off again or to match the speed reducing the gear changing will help to reduce fuel usage,
4. Plan your route your SAT NAV may take you the shortest route but the more efficient route may be slightly longer if this involves fewer traffic lights or junctions .
5, Shift up early, modern engines are designed to work at lower rpm, watch your Gear Shift Indicator, and at higher speeds, you lose efficiency once you are over 3000rpm.
