Four bright fabric pavilions, each one printed with a plant that's vanishing - or already gone.
Highlighted work: Just opened are the Solastalgia Pavilions at the Jardins Botanique in Marnay-sur-Seine, France. Each pavilion features a plant species from the local region that's either critically endangered or extinct.
The work is a collaboration between Dr Sarah Riviere (Senior Lecturer in Architecture at Falmouth) and LA-based artist Nya Patrinos. They are using soft architecture and textile design to explore something called solastalgia – the grief we feel when we lose the landscapes and ecosystems we love, and where we feel at home. It's not just about what's disappearing. It's about how that loss feels – and environmental philosopher Glenn Albrecht has coined this term solastalgia to describe this.
