I live with my partner Alex and our dog called Mitsy (Shih Tzu). Mitsy has been around children from a puppy and is very affectionate and tolerant around them. She is supervised at all times when children are at the setting. I have been working with children for over 11 years. I have childcare experience with all ages from new born babies to children up to 12 years old. I believe children can lear
n and thrive in a learning environment, which is stimulating, comforting and appropriate to children’s abilities. I have a genuine interest in the education sector and outdoor learning activities. The children will have use of the following rooms:
*Playroom – This is the main room which has all the toys, books, educational resources and other exciting things.
*Living room – children will have use of the TV at lunch for quiet time if they are not sleeping and for reading books on the rug.
*Kitchen – This is where all of the arts and crafts take place as well as baking lots of lovely tasty goods.
*Garden – The children will have lots of time to play outside in the garden. We have lots of outdoor games and toys, a play house, mud kitchen, sand and water play. We will also be growing our own herbs and plants.
*Sleeping arrangements – If required, there is a travel cot for younger children. Older children can use the sofas both down stairs and upstairs. I started in the childcare sector in September 2006 working as a childminding assistant with my mother who has 25 yrs experience as a child minder. Here I studied for my NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education. On completion of my level 3 I moved on to working as a Deputy Manager of a Local Nursery. During this time I gained a lot of experience, such as:
• Overseeing daily operations within a structured childcare setting.
• Managing and mentoring a team of 7 employees.
• Understanding and carrying out the following responsibilities: safeguarding, administration, billing, accounts, banking, policies and procedures, Health and safety, risk assessments, staff rota and planning.
• Maintaining on-going communication with parents regarding their child’s activities, behaviour and development. I would respond to each parents concern as they arose.
• Maintaining records and reports on each child including their progress and experiences to better understand their development and needs.
• SENCO responsibilities – Working with Individual Education Plans (IEP) to facilitate learning in children with severe Special Educational Needs (SEN).
• Forest school Leader – Providing forest school sessions through children’s needs and interests in an outdoor environment. I have studied for a Degree in Early Years Education. I was awarded the qualification in 2012, leaving that summer. In September 2012 I decided to work alongside my sister and my mum working as an assistant child minder to build up my own childminding business. We worked together for over 2 years. During this time I visited other nurseries and schools gaining further knowledge, developing skills and completed my Early Years Teacher Status. In November 2015, I became a registered childminder, in my own right, running the business from my own home. Early Learning 0-5years - Delivery of the Curriculum
Within the group, all children are supported in developing their potential at their own pace. My system enables me to ensure a planned curriculum tailored to the needs of individual children. Through thorough and regular observations, and a sound knowledge of the child, I will assess and evaluate developmental rates. Working within EYFS Framework I’m able to plan and offer an individually appropriate curriculum for the children to progress with confidence to the National Curriculum at the age of 5. As I provide the 2, 3 and 4 year old funding, I provide a full pre-school educational programme that is scheduled with flexibility which allows me to respond to the needs of the individual child on that particular day. By operating a small childcare business I am able to provide excellent quality childcare which is both flexible and great value for money. Each session is designed to provide a variety of activities and to encourage children in all aspects of play. The children are encouraged to join in group activities such as music, small apparatus, story time, to initiate their own activities and to move freely between the activities of their choice. I observe the children and assess their progress to ensure they are happy and settled. There are a variety of activities on offer for the children to take part in such as painting, cutting and sticking, playing with dough, dressing up, puzzles and sand. Children may not always be able to bring home a craft item they have made, as they may have been extra busy enjoying the other activities. I believe that what they take home in their hearts is more important than what they bring home in their hands. My setting is based on the belief that my parents’ needs are of the utmost
Importance. I am committed to meeting those needs. I understand that caring for all children involves sharing responsibility with the parents and families. I recognise that a parent is the most important person in a child’s life and I will therefore consult with you, on any aspects of your child’s care. I am experienced in the care of children with behavioural difficulties and children with additional needs. I work alongside outside professionals to support children’s learning and development. All individual needs are discussed with parents. I am dedicated to training to improve the service I provide, therefore training is updated regularly. I offer flexibility on dietary requirements, longer hours, early morning starts etc. I have an anti-bullying, all-inclusive policy and welcome children of all abilities. Outdoor play:
Outdoor play is important for the children’s development and features strongly in my curriculum. I run an active setting and follow guidance from the EYFS that encourages outdoor play. I operate free flow play for large parts of the day which allows children to choose whether they would like to play outside or inside. In view of this please make sure your child wears clothing and footwear that is appropriate for the weather and that he/she brings waterproofs to the setting on rainy days and a sunhat on sunny days so we can ensure your child is suitably dressed for the
weather. If you would like to keep a pair of wellington boots for your child here, you may bring a pair in. Education and Qualifications
