Congratulations to our very own Seb Vds who achieved 2nd place overall at this week's Junior National Gliding Championships held at Lasham Gliding Centre.

The weather prevented flying on the last three days and Seb was placed 3rd, 2nd, 5th, joint 1st, 4th and 8th on previous days.

The 8th place came after a land out with 8 other competitors on Thursday.

Great performance so soon after the heat, camping and travelling at the Junior World Championships in Germany.

We were recently joined by the wonderful members of the Air Aces Society, aviation enthusiasts from the Chichester area. https://www.bitcloud.org.uk/airaces/

They arranged a day experience with us and all 10 made flights, 14 year old Kayleigh (aiming for a commercial pilot career) had two!

Jodie is pictured proving to us all that being partially sighted is no barrier to adventure. She thoroughly enjoyed the experience but did admit that it came a close second to her tandem parachute jump!

Southdown GC are very grateful to the generous support that Air Aces have given to our Junior Section over the years.

Our Seb Vds is staying close to the top of the UK National Junior Gliding Championships in 2nd place overall today with some great podium places so far.

FINAL RESULTS DAY Junior International Gliding Championships

Our Seb Vds of Southdown Gliding Club is now ranked 6th in the world! Team mate Tom Chapman 8th!

Together they helped the British Gliding Team finish in 2nd place!

Junior International Gliding Championships preliminary results after task 10 today.

Seb Vds of Southdown Gliding Club finished in 19th place and Tom Chapman in 23rd place but you can see below how well they stand in overall position!

Team GB 🇬🇧 currently running in 2nd place overall to Germany 🇩🇪 in top spot and France 🇫🇷 in 3rd.

It's all very close though so send positive thoughts and cheer them on - they can see your reactions here
