How students explored sustainable farming & why first-hand experiences on farm matter.

But their experiences are best told in their own words.

From hands-on activities and farm visits to thought-provoking discussions and new connections, the challenge has given participants the opportunity to explore sustainability in action and discover the role they can play in shaping the future.

Hear directly from this year's finalists about what they learned, what surprised them and what they'll take away from the experience.

Huge thanks to Harper Adams University, McDonald's and everyone involved for their support.

πŸ€–πŸ¦‰ Robots, strawberries and owl pellets... not your average day on a farm.
At at Tiptree yesterday, students explored the technology, science and nature behind sustainable food production. From programming strawberry-harvesting robots and discovering how greenhouse systems support crop growth, to investigating biodiversity through owl pellet dissections, they experienced first-hand the innovation and environmental stewardship that help produce our food.

Through experiences like these, LEAF Education aims to help young people understand where their food comes from, explore the sustainable approaches farmers are adopting, and discover the exciting opportunities available across the food and farming sector.

Huge thanks to Tiptree and everyone involved. A special thank you to NFU Mutual Charitable Trust and Nineveh Charitable Trust for making these valuable learning experiences possible.

Open Your Gate and help children understand where their food comes from.

To support farmers welcoming schools onto their farms, AHDB and LEAF have developed Practical Farm Activities for Secondary Learners: ready-to-use, curriculum-linked activities covering food production, sustainability and farm management.
We’ve also just launched brand-new resources covering the carbon cycle, pasture yield, and soil health!

Together with AHDB we're also working on the Open Your Gate campaign, to support one million on-farm learning experiences by 2031. To help more farmers get involved, 80 fully funded CEVAS training places are available, providing the skills, confidence and support needed to host educational visits.
