We’ve bid a fond farewell to Sharon Hodgkins (Staff Member 2003-2026 & Honorary OW), who’ll be leaving a big gap to fill in the Senior School Library, having left our campus and relocated to Scotland!

We wish Sharon and her husband all the very best for their new life up north!

Thank you for everything you’ve done for Wycliffe, its staff and pupils!

Sharon says:

I have loved working in such a great community since 2003.

I was interviewed by Peter Woolley (the Deputy Head at the time) in his flat in School House, sitting on a sofa with his dog by my side. It was a wonderful window into the quirkiness of Wycliffe — something I came to love once I got used to it!

Besides developing the library and creating a warm, welcoming space for our students and staff, I had the privilege of starting and running the Bee Club for 15 years. Having the opportunity to help students learn how to care for, and learn from, honeybees has been extraordinary. In fact, I have been asked questions about bees far more often than books, that’s for sure! May the Wycliffe bees go from strength to strength.

A wonderful and busy few hours – hosted by Sharyn Trainor (Staff Member 2008 – present & Hon. OW) and Matt Bishop (Alumni Manager) – was had in the DT workshop at Wycliffe, as OWs and Hon. OWs gathered together, giving their time and skill to repair a total of 17 much loved, much used Chapel chairs, ready for the new school year.

Thank you to all who came along. It was lovely to see a range of different OW eras in attendance and some genuine skill on show.

See Group Photo for names of those in attendance.

Enormous congratulations to recent Wycliffe College leaver and OW Ailsa Whitehead (L 2024-2026), after securing a job as a Junior Photographer at the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup, following months of interviews, conversations, waiting and showing her work, some of which can be viewed here: .ilsa_photography

It’s an incredible opportunity and one she will gain so much from working alongside experienced professionals, seeing first-hand how a major international sporting event is covered and continuing to develop her skills, confidence and own photographic style.

Ailsa is particularly grateful to her Media and Film teachers, Mr Beamish and Mr Waring, who she found hugely inspiring during her Sixth Form years. Their encouragement and passion for the subject helped give her the confidence to develop her own ideas and pursue her growing interest in photography and visual storytelling.

From balancing A-levels and intensive rowing training with her growing passion for photography to securing a role at one of the world’s biggest sailing events, Ailsa has made an impressive start to what could be a very exciting career. Good luck with it all Ailsa!

Wycliffe Choral Society is delighted to welcome its new Musical Director, Joshua Crunden, as rehearsals resume this September.

Following the retirement of founder Chris Swain after 43 incredible years at the helm, Joshua takes over the baton after previously serving as the choir’s accompanist. A Stroud-based conductor, pianist, organist, and violinist, Joshua brings extensive experience in choral direction and accompaniment. He is excited to build on the choir’s rich history while exploring dynamic new repertoire.

This autumn, the choir will be preparing a sensational programme featuring Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs and Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, culminating in a performance at Wycliffe College Chapel accompanied by a professional symphony orchestra.

Join Us This Autumn!

If you love to sing, you are warmly invited to join the choir as it embarks on this exciting new chapter. Wycliffe Choral Society is a friendly, non-auditioned community choir welcoming singers of all ages, abilities, and voice types—whether you are a seasoned vocalist or trying choral singing for the first time.
• Rehearsals: Tuesdays from 7:30pm – 9:15pm (starting Tuesday 8th September)
• Location: Wycliffe Prep School, Stonehouse, GL10 2LD
• Taster Sessions: Free for prospective members—no need to book ahead, and sheet music is provided!
Beyond weekly rehearsals and major concert performances alongside talented local musicians, the choir hosts a variety of social events throughout the year.
