Our Year 5 geographers have been learning all about coasts and, in particular, how they are shaped and eroded by the sea. The children explored how hydraulic action and abrasion cause a headland to gradually erode, forming a cave, arch, stack and eventually a stump.

To demonstrate their understanding, the children created their own clay models to show each stage of this fascinating process. We were incredibly impressed with how accurately and clearly they represented coastal erosion! 🌊👏

What a fantastic morning of fundraising and fun! Today, our school community came together to take part in the Potters Arf Marathon, raising money for Father Hudson's Caritas.

We were incredibly proud to see staff, parents and other members of our community take on the challenge, as well as lots of our children and other adults getting involved in the fun run, showing fantastic enthusiasm and determination along the way!

A huge thank you to everyone who took part, supported our runners, cheered them on and donated. Your generosity has been incredible, and we are delighted to have smashed our target and raised over £1,650 so far! It was wonderful to see so many members of our school community coming together to support such a fantastic cause.

Donations are still open, so if you would like to support our fundraising, there is still time to donate and help us to make an even larger difference. https://www.justgiving.com/page/stfilscharity2026

A quick good luck message to all those who are taking part in the Potters 'arf this weekend in some form or another. In total, we have over 40 children, parents and staff taking part which is a great effort!
Please do offer your support if you can this weekend. It's not just the hard work of the actual race that is a challenge - the weeks of training beforehand are much harder! Thank you to all who have given up their time in preparation (and the loss of their leg function on Monday morning!) Participants will be easy to spot on the school run next week!
Below is a link to the justgiving page for our school. Please donate what you can so that we can support those in society who need our help: the elderly, the lonely, the homeless and those who are marginalised.

Your generosity has been fabulous so far and we have nearly £900 before a step has been taken! Thank you all!

On Thursday, Class 4 showed off their observational drawing skills as they created beautiful sketches of flowers. We are currently learning about Claude Monet in our Art lessons and the children took inspiration from his Impressionism style to create their own impressions of the flowers. 🌷🌸🥀

Year 1 have had a busy day visiting two capital cities - London and Cardiff!

As part of their Geography curriculum, they have been learning about where we live - the United Kingdom. Using their passports to help them, they went sightseeing for some of the key sights of the capital cities, such as the London Eye, Big Ben, Cardiff Castle and the Principality Stadium. They then drew postcards showing their favourite feature from each place.

They are already looking forward to their next visits to Edinburgh and Belfast next week! 🌍
