Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Ormiston Academies Trust have agreed a new management partnership for the New Horizons Sport and Leisure Centre to secure its long-term future for local residents, pupils, and sports clubs.
From Tuesday, 1st September 2026, day to day management of the centre in Chell will transfer to Ormiston Academies Trust, operating alongside our academy.
The centre will remain fully open to the public. The council’s Wellbeing and Leisure Services will continue running all school swimming, Learn to Swim programmes, group lessons, and public swim sessions. Community bookings and room hire will be managed by specialist provider Edu Lettings to keep access smooth and straightforward.
Principal Mr Fitzgibbon:
"New Horizons is a vital asset for our community. As well as supporting our students, it gives local residents, families, and sports clubs a great place to stay active. We are proud of our deep roots in this community and look forward to working closely with the council and local groups to build on the centre's success."

Last week 14 Year 10 pupils enjoyed a careers morning at Longton Fire Station. Students had a run through of different roles within the fire service; how a fire station operates; the role of an on-call fire fighter; what fire fighters wear and the equipment they use. Pupils were brilliant and engaged well with every session, some even racing against each other to get their uniform one and see who could respond to a call the quickest!

Recently Luna Rae, Daisy and Poppy (Year 7) represented OHA at the SASCAL Rotary Club Public Speaking Competition, held at Stoke Sixth Form College. 8 Teams from the area competed for the trophy. Our team did an excellent job, as one of the youngest teams and represented the school with an outstanding performance titled: 'Saving Boredom: An endangered experience' in which they argued for the benefits of boredom! Well done, girls!

Important update for all parents and carers regarding our upcoming activities on Thursday, 16th July.
All students will need to attend in their full academy PE kit on the day. School will start and finish at our normal times.
We have a fantastic lineup of events running across all year groups:
Year 7: STEM Day (taking place in the academy)
Year 8: MPCT Army Day (taking place offsite, right next to the academy)
Year 9: National War Arboretum trip
Year 10: Careers in Sport Day (taking place in the academy)
Important action for Year 9 parents:
Please ensure you complete the necessary forms via your Edulink Parent Account as soon as possible. This form is vital as it provides us with the most up-to-date medical and emergency contact information while the students are offsite.
If you are having any issues accessing your parental account for Edulink, please email either Miss Wilkes (Director of PD) or Miss Haynes (RSL) so we can reset your login details for you.

We are excited to announce the launch of OHA's Prom Shop. Our main aim is to make prom accessible for every single student, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to attend feeling confident, comfortable, and looking their absolute best.
To help make this happen, we are looking for donations of new or gently used formal wear. We would be incredibly grateful for any prom dresses, suits, shirts, ties, bow ties, smart shoes, handbags, clutches, jewellery, accessories, belts, cufflinks, waistcoats, or jackets. Every single donation can make a massive difference, giving a student the chance to enjoy one of the most memorable events of their school life without the worry of the cost.
If you have any items you would like to contribute, donations can be placed directly in the Prom Shop donation box located in the main school Reception.
Thank you so much for supporting OHA's Prom Shop and helping us ensure that every student has the opportunity to shine on their prom night. Please like and share this post to help us spread the word across the community.
