On Friday 2nd October, we were delighted to welcome representatives from the Department for Education to explore the impact of the WMBACC (West Midlands Baccalaureate) and see firsthand how our myFUTURE strategy is bridging the gap between education and employment, providing vocational and technical routes as well as traditional academic ones. 🎓✨

At its heart, the WMBACC empowers every student to discover their potential and build essential employability skills. By uniting schools, colleges, universities, and employers, we are building a robust framework that gives students genuine choices through our myFUTURE Gateways—ensuring equal value is placed on every route to success, in all areas of industry; whether in technical trades, digital innovation, or public services, to name but a few.

This visit was a powerful demonstration of multi-trust collaboration (CEO Futures Forum, Alpha Academies Trust, Three Spires Trust & Potteries Educational Trust) across our region, taking our civil servant guests on a journey to see how these Gateways drive systemic change for young people:

Starting with Alpha Academies Trust, civil servants met with student groups to see how our Gateways enrich their education, before stepping into the workshop to see the Construction & Green Economy Gateway skills brought to life. Natalie Jellyman from Goodwins Engineering shared valuable employer perspectives on why industry partners are actively backing the WMBACC model.

The delegation then visited Potteries Educational Trust to explore the Digital, Technology, Business & Finance Gateway in practice. Partnering with Tesco, students worked through a live marketing experience for a Halloween advertisement campaign—demonstrating how employer integration deepens understanding and prepares students for the modern workforce. Jon Lovatt from CEO Futures Forum also joined to hold impactful discussions with our student representatives.

At Three Spires Trust, guests were hosted at the Fifth on Fourth in-house restaurant, where students training within the Health, Social Care, Sport & Public Services Gateway framework served a fantastic three-course meal. The visit highlighted real success stories of how this technical training directly unlocks the transition from education into employment.

The day concluded with a high-level Round Table Conference with Gareth Snell MP to discuss regional talent pipelines and how we can continue scaling these career Gateways across the West Midlands.

A huge thank you to all the trusts, employers, civil servants, and students involved in making this visit such a success! 🙌

Together, we are opening doors, strengthening regional partnerships, and equipping the next generation with the exact skills needed for the modern workforce.

✨ Capturing the Wonder of Stoke-on-Trent! ✨

Today is National Poetry Day, and this year’s theme is WONDER! 💭

To celebrate, we’re taking a moment to look at the incredible history, spirit, and heritage right here on our doorstep in the Potteries. Local poet David Vickers captured the heart of our city so beautifully in a piece featured in The Sentinel:

"For this was once a town of coal, and once, a town of steel; but, first of all, a town that grew from clay." 🏺

His poem celebrates everything that makes Stoke-on-Trent so special:
⚒️ Our rich industrial roots: "Vulcan’s sons set to their chore... And honour to the men of coal, who laboured underground..."
🥞 Our legendary local cuisine: "For here you’ll find a dish of note; (in Stoke ‘it inner topped be owt,’!) the oatcake holds a place of some renown."
🌟 Our famous icons: Celebrating the legacy of Arnold Bennett and Robbie Williams!
❤️ Our city's soul: "If, though, you seek the city’s soul, then wander, stroll around, there’s beauty found within this urban sprawl;"
