Our Year 5 children have had a fantastic time at YHA Ilam Hall as part of their residential visit last week!

The children have enjoyed a range of exciting outdoor learning experiences, developing their teamwork, problem-solving skills and confidence along the way.

πŸš€ Rokit Build and Launch
Working together in teams, the children built and launched water-powered rockets designed to carry a precious cargo high into the sky before returning safely to the ground. This exciting activity encouraged teamwork while exploring the scientific concepts of forces and aerodynamics.

🌊 River Dipping
Taking place in a local stream, river dipping gave the children the opportunity to explore an aquatic habitat and discover a variety of freshwater creatures, from Hog Louse to Mayfly Nymphs. They learned about river ecosystems and the adaptations that help these fascinating animals survive.

🧭 Orienteering
This exciting outdoor activity challenged both mind and body. The children learned how to orientate maps, identify landmarks and navigate between checkpoints, developing valuable map-reading and navigation skills.

πŸ₯Ύ The children also completed a 5km walk through the beautiful hills to Dovedale and the famous stepping stones, took part in a bug hunt, and enjoyed a variety of team-building activities on their first day.

We are incredibly proud of how enthusiastically Year 5 embraced every challenge, supported one another throughout the trip, and represented our school so well. What a memorable residential experience!

πŸ§™β€β™‚οΈβš‘πŸ† Our Year 2, 3 and 4 children took part in an exciting game of Quidditch last week! πŸ†βš‘πŸ§™β€β™€οΈ

We were lucky enough to have Commando Joe's Enrichment in to deliver this fantastic experience. The children first used the πŸͺ„βœ¨ magic sorting hat ✨πŸͺ„ to discover which Hogwarts house they belonged to before being split into teams ready for the challenge ahead!

Before playing a Quidditch match, the instructor taught the children about the important roles within the game. The children learned how to be:
🟑 A Chaser
πŸ”΅ A Be**er
🟒 A Keeper
πŸ”΄ A Seeker
✨ and even how to catch β€” and become β€” the Golden Snitch!

Once the children had learned these skills, they were then taught how to play a full Quidditch match. ⚑

The game included a mixture of activities and skills such as 🀾 handball, 🏐 dodgeball, πŸ‰ tag rugby and ⚽ football, all helping to decide the overall winning team.

The children absolutely loved taking part, showing fantastic πŸ™Œ teamwork, πŸ’ͺ determination and 😊 enthusiasm throughout β€” and of course they were very excited about the πŸ† winning trophy!

Well done to everyone involved! πŸŒŸπŸ‘

Our children had a wonderful time creating their Easter bonnets and proudly showing them off in our Easter Bonnet Parade today! 🐣🎩🌸

We are so proud of each and every child β€” the bonnets were absolutely amazing, full of creativity, colour, and fantastic effort 🌈✨

Each year group had a winner who received an Easter egg πŸ₯šπŸ«, but it was such a difficult decision as every single bonnet was so impressive. A truly fantastic effort by all! πŸ‘πŸ’›

A big thank you to all the children for the time and effort they put into making their bonnets β€” it really made the day extra special 😊

🌟 Year 4 Residential Trip to Conwy 🌟

Our Year 4 children had a fantastic time on their trip to Conwy β€” and it was extra special as it was their first residential trip! πŸ˜„

They walked to Conwy Castle 🏰 and explored the castle walls, taking in the amazing views. The children were very excited to discover the smallest house in Britain too! 🏑

They also spent time at the beach πŸ–οΈ making sandcastles, collecting shells and pebbles, and enjoying the fresh sea air. After walking along the seafront, everyone loved having some delicious chips by the sea! 🍟

The fun continued at the local park where the children had a great time playing, and we visited a gift shop to buy some lovely souvenirs and gifts 🎁

One of the highlights of the trip was visiting a shop where they were shown a real sword that the Romans would have used βš”οΈ. The owner gave the children a very interesting talk about it, which the children really enjoyed and learned a lot from.

It was a wonderful experience filled with learning, exploring, independence and lots of smiles. We are very proud of how well the children did on their first residential adventure! 😊

A huge thank you to our staff who organised the trip and supported the children throughout the visit β€” your time, care and enthusiasm helped make it such a special experience for everyone πŸ‘πŸ’™

πŸ“šβœ¨ World Book Day Fun! βœ¨πŸ“š

Today we celebrated World Book Day in the coziest way possible… by coming to school in our pyjamas! πŸ’€πŸ‘•

The children had a fantastic day enjoying their favourite stories while relaxing with a delicious cup of hot chocolate β˜•πŸ«. There were smiles, giggles, and lots of wonderful reading happening all around!

We also used our iPads to help bring stories to life πŸ“±βœ¨ and the children showed their creativity by designing their own book front covers πŸŽ¨πŸ“–. We were so impressed with their imaginative ideas and colourful designs!

It has been a lovely day celebrating the magic of reading and sharing stories together. Well done everyone! πŸŒŸπŸ“šπŸ’«
