Our Year 5 children have had a fantastic time at YHA Ilam Hall as part of their residential visit last week!
The children have enjoyed a range of exciting outdoor learning experiences, developing their teamwork, problem-solving skills and confidence along the way.
π Rokit Build and Launch
Working together in teams, the children built and launched water-powered rockets designed to carry a precious cargo high into the sky before returning safely to the ground. This exciting activity encouraged teamwork while exploring the scientific concepts of forces and aerodynamics.
π River Dipping
Taking place in a local stream, river dipping gave the children the opportunity to explore an aquatic habitat and discover a variety of freshwater creatures, from Hog Louse to Mayfly Nymphs. They learned about river ecosystems and the adaptations that help these fascinating animals survive.
π§ Orienteering
This exciting outdoor activity challenged both mind and body. The children learned how to orientate maps, identify landmarks and navigate between checkpoints, developing valuable map-reading and navigation skills.
π₯Ύ The children also completed a 5km walk through the beautiful hills to Dovedale and the famous stepping stones, took part in a bug hunt, and enjoyed a variety of team-building activities on their first day.
We are incredibly proud of how enthusiastically Year 5 embraced every challenge, supported one another throughout the trip, and represented our school so well. What a memorable residential experience!

π‘ A Chaser
π΅ A Be**er
π’ A Keeper
π΄ A Seeker
β¨ and even how to catch β and become β the Golden Snitch!
Once the children had learned these skills, they were then taught how to play a full Quidditch match. β‘
The game included a mixture of activities and skills such as π€Ύ handball, π dodgeball, π tag rugby and β½ football, all helping to decide the overall winning team.
The children absolutely loved taking part, showing fantastic π teamwork, πͺ determination and π enthusiasm throughout β and of course they were very excited about the π winning trophy!

π Year 4 Residential Trip to Conwy π
Our Year 4 children had a fantastic time on their trip to Conwy β and it was extra special as it was their first residential trip! π
They walked to Conwy Castle π° and explored the castle walls, taking in the amazing views. The children were very excited to discover the smallest house in Britain too! π‘
They also spent time at the beach ποΈ making sandcastles, collecting shells and pebbles, and enjoying the fresh sea air. After walking along the seafront, everyone loved having some delicious chips by the sea! π
The fun continued at the local park where the children had a great time playing, and we visited a gift shop to buy some lovely souvenirs and gifts π
One of the highlights of the trip was visiting a shop where they were shown a real sword that the Romans would have used βοΈ. The owner gave the children a very interesting talk about it, which the children really enjoyed and learned a lot from.
It was a wonderful experience filled with learning, exploring, independence and lots of smiles. We are very proud of how well the children did on their first residential adventure! π
A huge thank you to our staff who organised the trip and supported the children throughout the visit β your time, care and enthusiasm helped make it such a special experience for everyone ππ
