So, you’ve all heard of The Nutcracker, right?

They’re those quirky-looking wooden figures that adorn the shelves in B&M and The Range (other retail outlets are available) in the lead up to Christmas… Isn’t it a ballet? Isn’t there a big fight with a Mouse King? Tchaikovsky wrote some VERY recognisable bangers from it…? Wasn’t Barbie in it?

All of those are true.

But they were all inspired by a very magical and mysterious story…

So… How well do you REALLY know The Nutcracker?

E.T.A. Hoffman’s magical story is a fantastical blend of Christmas enchantment with gothic fairy-tale elements, childhood imagination, dreams… and nightmares.

Join us this festive season for one of the most magical Christmas stories you THOUGHT you knew…✨

The first of our Class of ‘27 (yes, I know we’re only a week into the new academic year 🫠😂)
Sweet 16th Birthdays… Fraya the Firecracker 🥳

Fraya is officially our longest-serving student, having started her acting tuition when she had just turned 9 years old - almost as old as we are!

Fraya has undergone one of the biggest transformations we’ve seen at The Young Rep Acting School - from being a complete newbie when it comes to all things acting, to one of our most skilled and dedicated young actors.

Embracing every opportunity that is thrown her way, Fraya honours the responsibility of every role she has played - including ‘Aslan’ in our 2024 production of ‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’, ‘Cindy Lou-Who’ in ‘Once Upon A Christmas’ and ‘Mrs Bumble’ in ‘Twisted’ and most recently, ‘Queen Vic and Charles Dickens’ in ‘Horrible Christmas’.

Her talent is fuelled by her fiery passion (not to mention her reputation for being the most accident-prone student l!) and she has worked exceptionally hard to become one of the finest actresses to ever walk through our doors.

Fraya has 1 billion percent cent earned her stripes over the last (almost) 7 years as a student at our acting school and her dedication, effort and energy have not only gifted her some super memories with The Young Rep Acting School, but also with Scarlet Theatre, having played the role of ‘Loki’ in our production of ‘The Witches’ earlier this year and sharing the role of ‘Anne Shirley’ in our stunning production of ‘Anne of Green Gables’ in October ‘24.

Happy Sweet Sixteenth, Fraya! 🥳🎭

Six years ago, back in 2020, when the world came to a standstill, we kept acting…

Our classes moved online for a while, then we moved back into the theatre and worked in socially-distanced ‘bubbles’ as soon as we were able and safe to do so.
In a year where theatre’s went dark and live performance paused, we were incredibly proud to have produced, filmed and streamed a production of E.T.A. Hoffman’s magical story of The Nutcracker from The Rep Theatre, Stoke-on-Trent.

Our 2020 production of The Nutcracker was a shining light that we were proud to be able to share with so many people during a very tricky time and we had such an incredible experience telling this magical story that we vowed to do it again in front of a live audience...
This is the year! ❤️

E.T.A. Hoffman’s magical story is jam-packed with incredible characters full of enchantment and grit and it’s the perfect vehicle for our style of theatrical storytelling. We cannot wait to get started with our students as we head back to class this weekend.

Tickets for our Christmas production of The Nutcracker on the 9th & 10th of December go live tomorrow… This is going to be such a special one for us ❤️

For our outrageously talented alumni… enjoy a trip down memory lane with these snaps from 2020… a moment in OUR story we will never forget!

Whilst we may be bidding farewell to a sizzling summer season, we’re looking ahead to an exciting autumn of acting adventures!

Midsummer Madness 2026 was our 7th Summer Acting Festival and our special way of celebrating the students’ progress and growth as performers at the end of the academic year.

Whether it be a giant leap in their technique and ability or a baby step to being bolder and more confident, the carousel of progress is unique to each of our talented young actors.

Enjoy the first wave of Midsummer Madness snaps… Part Two to follow!

Seven Days til we’re back to Acting School soooo seven days of social-media dumps!
Stand by, y’all. It’s gonna be wild! (and probably a bit annoying 😎✌️)

Summer 2026… A Carnival Of Curiosities… Without doubt, some of our absolute favourite workshop sessions to date!

We spent workshop week in the wildly weird and whimsical world of Tim Burton; exploring some of our favourite films from the imagination of the iconic director and writer.

And whilst Burton is widely known for being the pioneer of goth subculture in Hollywood, his directorial debut came in 1981 on the family comedy-adventure, P*e Wee’s Big Adventure… this also marked the first of many collaborations with a certain composer by the name of Danny Elfman!

Enjoy our ‘postcards’ from P*e Wee’s Big Adventure!

Wishing our Class of ‘26 and everyone collecting their GCSE results today the most magnificent of starts to their next chapters…

But waaaaay more important than a piece of paper is the fact that you have brains in your head, feet in your shoes and you can steer yourself in any direction you choose.

YOU choose where to go and what to do in life.

Exam results do not define people. The choices you make DO. So be present, be kind and always be YOU ✌️
