Today following on from reading the new gruffalo granny story which we bought last week, we have made gruffalo granny stew for lunch . First I made a picture shopping list then off we went to find all the ingredients. We named all the vegetables we found and got what it said on the list with great listening skills and behavior in the shop. We then got home and washed our hands all all had a go at trying to chop the vegetables. It was a bit tricky but they all had a go, we discussed how to hold the knives safe, how to cut and the smell and texture of all the lovely veg. We then let it cook and ate it for lunch.

🍂 Autumn is one of my favourite seasons for activity planning! 🍂

There are so many opportunities for children to explore, discover and ask questions about the world around them. So far, we have made hedgehog playdough, collected conkers and pine cones, created a collage using the beautiful colours of autumn leaves, and enjoyed lots of autumn-themed stories.

We’ve been discussing the different sizes, shapes and textures of conkers, exploring how they move by posting and sliding them through tubes, and thinking about the animals we might see during this time of year. On our walks, we’ve been spotting squirrels and looking closely at the natural world around us. 🐿️🍁

All of these experiences provide opportunities to build on essential skills through play, exploration, communication, problem-solving, observation, creativity and early mathematical thinking.

I love how autumn provides so many natural, hands-on learning opportunities. There is always something new to discover, and the children’s curiosity leads us in so many wonderful directions! 🍂🌰🐿️

Back to school means one thing, nice and quiet places to visit. Our first week back we visited Manchester runway park it was so nice and quiet we had a great time watching the planes take off and land, climbing into planes, spotting colours on the tails, getting pilots to wave at us and playing on the park. All of our little ones love plane spotting in the sky so we followed their interests more by visiting here to see them up close.

Slight delay on uploading these but the last few weeks of the summer holidays were busy ones with everyone well rested after holidays we had lots of fun days out. Ice creams and wild flowers walk at snugburys. Beach indoor fun at affinity. Playgroup visits at the family hub, wet weather activities such as playdoh and a visit to little peas play cafe. Deer hunting at Dunham Massey , and feeding the animals at Lakemore farm.

We are Safer Sleep Ready! 🌙💤

With the new EYFS safer sleep changes coming into effect from September 2026, we have made a few updates to our sleep routines to ensure we continue to provide the safest possible sleep environment for all children.

We were already following around 90% of the updated guidance, so only a few small changes were needed.

Our updates include:

* New sleep mats that comply with the latest safer sleep standards.
* New individual sheets and blankets, replacing our previous blankets.
* Every child now has their own personal sleep bag, labelled with their photo and colour-coded to match their blanket. This helps children become more independent by finding and putting away their own sleep items.
* We have also installed a baby video monitor in the playroom. This allows us to maintain constant visual supervision whenever we need to step in and out of the room, alongside our regular in-person sleep checks.

The safety and wellbeing of the children in our care is always our highest priority, and these changes help ensure we continue to meet and exceed the latest guidance.

Well the last few weeks have been all about surviving the heat , with the heatwave we have spent a lot of time having fun in the garden with lots of shade and water play . It’s been too hot to be out and about in the car so we have changed our routines and had lots of fun

Keeping in the shade today with the forecast hot we headed out first thing so we could be back indoors before it gets too hot. We went to pick our own strawberries and had lots of fun (even tasted a few).we chose the big red ones discussed sizes and colours and what they need to grow, we also helped to carry our own baskets and put them on the scales afterwards.

The weather this last few week hasn’t been as great so we have been working on our fine motor skills following our theme of mini beasts , we have read stories , hunted for bugs learning the names, painting a snail plant pot, lots of pre writing skills and mark making , problem solving and puzzles . Then onto more imagination play with role play , more language skills talking about what we are dressing up as and what the roles do.

We had a lovely time over half term when the weather was lovely . We visited the garden centre to get some flowers that the bees would like after learning all about bees. We had a lovely walk in the woods at trentham avoiding the heat. Followed by a visit to joderall bank following the interests of one of the little ones, we all sat very well watching the rocket take off in space in the dome show, we explored all the interactive exhibition and had fun running around and having a picnic.

Our theme recently has been the hungry caterpillar 🐛, we have read the story, had lots of invitation to play with butter...

Our theme recently has been the hungry caterpillar 🐛, we have read the story, had lots of invitation to play with butterflies and caterpillar theme (naming fruits, counting, colours) making our own caterpillars and watching our caterpillars transformation into butterflies, they have now been transferred to their net ready for the last stage. Next up we are ready for world bee day tomorrow 🐝🐝
