For this week's , we caught up with BA (Hons) English grad Chris Roberts! 📚 From studying Shakespeare at our Stoke campus to building Risk and Assurance departments in the construction industry, Chris is the ultimate example of where a Staffs degree can take you.
It’s not just about the boardroom, though! Chris is a man of many talents: ✍️ Commended short story writer (Bournemouth Writing Prize 2024). 🍻 Former microbrewery founder via the SPEED Plus programme (any other grads remember this?!) and now currently taking on the challenge of walking 2,000 miles of Britain’s canals for ! 🚶♂️
You might even spot him on Channel 4’s Narrow Escapes soon! 📺
Chris’s top tip for students? "Be proactive! No one else is going to do it for you. Put in the work, and it will be worth it."

“Studying at Staffs is a transformational process - it will definitely take you places.” ✨🎨
Meet this week’s - Ed Catley, the driving force behind the internationally acclaimed 'Printing in...' projects and Course Leader for Art and Design at Shrewsbury College!
Ed didn't just want to make art; he wanted to understand how to make art happen. By studying MA Design Management at our Stoke campus, he learned to bridge the gap between the studio and the gallery, turning creative visions into global reality. 🌍
Why we’re inspired by Ed: 🖼️ His portraits and prints are held in the United Kingdom’s National Art Collection. 🗺️ His work has traveled from the US and Europe to the Middle and Far East. 🎓 He’s shaping the next generation of artists by blending research with practice.
Ed’s secret to success? A "Say YES" philosophy. "To be successful in the art world, you have to live it," he says. "Never look back, never give up."
What’s your advice for current students? "Stay positive, be optimistic, and take care of business!" 💼✨
