Year 2 had a fantastic trip to Beeston Castle today! 🏰

The children enjoyed exploring the historic castle ruins and learned lots about life in medieval times. They discovered how castles were built for defence, the importance of the castle's location high on a rocky hill, and how people lived and worked within castle walls centuries ago.

We were incredibly proud of all the children, who represented the school brilliantly throughout the day. Their behaviour, enthusiasm, curiosity, and excellent listening skills were outstanding. Well done, Year 2 – you were a credit to the school! ⭐

Oral language plays a vital role in children’s learning, literacy and social and emotional development.

Our latest guide supports parents and educators with practical, evidence-informed strategies to help children build school-ready language skills.

The guide explores:
• Building oral language through meaningful interaction
• Supporting listening and attention
• Growing children’s vocabulary
• Sharing stories and naming feelings
• Working with settings to spot and support language needs
• Using evidence-based approaches to meet individual needs

With language developing rapidly between the ages of two and six, early support can make a lasting difference to children’s confidence, communication and readiness for school.

Minecraft continues to be a highly popular platform for children, combining creativity, problem-solving and social interaction.

While the game can offer positive opportunities for learning and play, features such as public servers, multiplayer modes and in-game communication can create safeguarding challenges.

Our latest guide supports educators and parents in understanding these risks and helping children play more safely.

The guide explores:
• Public server communication and contact with unknown players
• Griefing, disruptive behaviour and online conflict
• In-game spending and subscription costs
• Addictive gameplay loops and balanced screen time
• Safer settings, private servers and suitable game modes

With clear, practical advice, the guide helps adults set boundaries, encourage safer choices and support responsible Minecraft use.

Hot Weather Message

Dear parents and carers,

As the weather forecast is hot this week, all children are invited to adapt the normal school uniform, not to wear ties and to wear summer uniform as appropriate.E.g. Shorts and polo shirts.

Please send children into school with a sun hat and a water bottle each day. We strongly recommend that sun cream is applied before school.

Children may bring sun cream into school and apply it themselves. This must be in a bottle clearly labelled with their name. We will have labels and a pen available on the gate if you need one. To keep traffic in the office to a minimum, please ask for a label on the gate.

Children will not be allowed to share sun cream with children from other families due to allergy risks.

Please note that Crocs and sandals are a health and safety hazard in school and are not permitted.

We will encourage children to drink regularly, stay in the shade where possible, and classroom windows will be kept open.

Thank you for your support.

On Wednesday we welcomed Tunstall Library into our Nursery class to host a Book Gifting session.
During the session the children listened to the story 'Press Here'. The children enjoyed the story and shared lots of laughter as we read through the story.
As part of the session the children all received a pack which included two books and an activity pack. The parents, carers and grandparents all received information about joining the Library.

I would like to say a huge well done to the Nursery class, as they all listened beautifully and engaged well with the story! 🌟📚

A huge thank you to all of the parents, carers and grandparents who attended, we really appreciate your support. 😄

A huge thank you to all the parents/carers/grandparents who came to Year 4's Watch me Learn morning this week. The children really enjoyed showcasing their incredible work. We read chapter 11 of our reading text - 'The Secrets of a Sun King' and summarised the chapter. We then showcased our learning in maths all about lines of symmetry and then we completed some research on Tutankhamun as part of our topic work on Ancient Civilisations. A wonderful morning - Well done Year 4!
