Come along and see our scarecrows this weekend!

Over the past few weeks, we have had an amazing opportunity watching our chicks hatch from their eggs in an incubator.
The children have been fascinated watching the changes and learning about how living things grow and develop.

The children have had the opportunity to gently hold the chicks, helping to build confidence, care, and respect for living animals.
We have adopted all five chicks and they will join our other school animals here at St Edward's.

Throughout the school, we have animal ambassadors who take care of all of our animals by helping to feed and clean them out, ensuring that they are well cared for.

STANDON BOWERS Y4 RESIDENTIAL TRIP:

This week our Y4 children have been to visit Standon Bowers for a 4 day residential trip.
They have completed a variety of activities during their stay including Caving, Low Ropes, Pond Dipping, Blindfold Trail, Bouldering, Orienteering, Woodland Craft, Bridge Building, Archery, Viking Games, Shelter Building and Fire Lighting.

Alongside this they have mastered independent jobs, including making their beds, duty jobs, organising their belongings and being responsible during free time.

This experience has allowed our children to develop their individual characteristics of COURAGE , PERSEVERANCE, RESILIENCE and COMPASSION. These are all part of our school values.

We are very proud of how courageous our children have been, being away from home for 3 nights and supporting each other.

Well done Y4. Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who have helped and supported this trip.

SUDBURY’S CHILDHOOD MUSEUM:
In Reception, we have been very lucky to have the opportunity to visit Sudbury’s Childhood Museum.

To support our History Curriculum, we have explored toys from the past and toys from the present.

Throughout the day we have been split into groups where we have completed various activities. These have included the timeline activity where we sorted the toys from oldest to newest. We explored the gallery of toys and discussed toys that we may recognise at home and toys that we don’t see used anymore.

We enjoyed lunchtime outside and a run around on the grass in the beautiful sunshine. ☀️

We listened very carefully to our tour guides who explained how children in the past had to go out to work to pay for their school and one of the jobs was being a chimney sweep. They really enjoyed having a go at being a chimney sweep and going up the chimney. Even Mr Warrington had a sneaky go!

We also explored the upside down room where there were 3 bedrooms from different periods of the past. We lay down/looked up to discuss the differences, any similarities and what we noticed.

We are all so proud of Reception for an amazing trip.

We are so proud to share highlights from our recent Peak Wildlife trip as part of the Staffordshire Attractions Programme- a fantastic opportunity that we were thrilled to be selected for!
Our pupils had an amazing time exploring the park, learning about its history and discovering the incredible animals that call it home. The experience inspired some truly creative outcomes back at school, where children designed and built their own animal sculptures. Using recycled materials such as plastic milk bottles, old chicken wire, textiles, cans, large containers and even crisp packets. They created fantastic models of a penguin, polar bear, tortoise and red squirrel representing the wildlife they encountered.
We also extended our learning beyond the classroom by encouraging pupils to take part in litter picking within their local communities alongside family and friends. This helped reinforce the importance of keeping our environment clean, reducing waste and making more sustainable choices.
This project links beautifully with Staffordshire Day, celebrated every year on May 1st. It’s a day dedicated to everything we love about our county-from its stunning countryside and rich heritage to its exciting attractions and community spirit. The date also marks the anniversary of Josiah Wedgwood founding his pottery company in 1759, helping to shape Staffordshire’s global reputation for ceramics.
Staffordshire Day 2026 promises a packed programme of family-friendly events, competitions, and special offers- truly a celebration of our vibrant and historic county.
We feel incredibly lucky to have been part of this special initiative and to partner with Peak Wildlife Park to bring such meaningful learning experiences to our children.
Come and see our work!
From 1st May, our animal creations will be on display at Peak Wildlife Park. We would love for you to come along, explore the park, and see what our amazing children and staff have created. For further information about Staffordshire day please follow the link below.

EASTER TIME 🐣 🐥
Over this last half term we have been exploring the Easter Story in a variety of ways, linking to our RE curriculum.

Christian Council invited all children to bring a flower cutting or foliage to decorate our cross. Christian Council have worked together to help prepare and decorate our Easter Cross ready to be displayed in our Community Garden.

EYFS have worked with their families at home to create their own Easter Gardens that have been proudly displayed on our playgrounds for everyone to see.

EYFS, KS1 & KS2 have worked really hard applying their artistic skills and using their sticky knowledge from their previous learning to create Easter cards.

Over the Easter holidays, please do stop by our Community Garden where you can see our beautifully decorated Easter Cross and our Easter Gardens.

Year 1 Mother's Day Service & Afternoon Tea 🌷💐🌹🌸

What a special afternoon we shared together celebrating all the amazing mums, carers, grandmothers and special ladies in our lives.🩷

A huge well done to our Year 1 children, who used their courage in church when speaking and singing. You made everyone so proud!

The children bought gifts from the Mother's Day stall that was led by our wonderful PTA in school.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and stayed for tea and cake in our school hall. It was so lovely to see everyone together enjoying a special afternoon.

At St Edward’s, school is more than just lessons- it’s a real community.

It’s not just our staff and pupils who make it special but also our parents, carers, volunteers, two church communities and our brilliant lunchtime staff. Everyone plays a part in looking after our children and making the school such a warm, welcoming place.

It’s lovely to see so many people getting involved and supporting one another. That’s what makes St Edward’s such a special place to belong. 🌟

📕📚📖WORLD BOOK DAY 2026 📕📚📖

We had an amazing day! In the morning, we joined Miss Upton with an assembly in the hall to discuss the purpose of the day and we showed off our costumes.

We made the most of the sunshine by spending most of the day outside and shared our stories.

We then planted our seed pods with Mr Warrington and the Eco Council, which Mrs Hordern kindly gave to us as a gift when she retired. This tied in with our ‘roots, shoots and branches’- EYFS being the roots, KS1 being the shoots and KS2 being the branches. We then positioned our books to create our tree.

We finished the day in the forest where our mystery readers joined us. What a lovely surprise! Thank you so much to our special readers.

Thank you to the parents/ carers for your efforts with the costumes, the children looked fabulous.

On Friday, we welcomed an author and illustrator (Tilly Matthews) into school to share her stories with the children. It has definitely left the children feeling inspired to become authors and illustrators when they're older. Thank you to Tilly for joining us. See the photos of Tilly's books, if you would like to purchase them.

Wow! What a busy week we have had!
