MILLY’S SMILES WELLY PROJECT:
Over the past year we as a LOCAL school community have been walking alongside another pupil here at St Edward’s who was diagnosed with cancer. As a result of this, NATIONALLY many hospitals have worked together to support the child and their family.
Through the aid of GLOBAL research and medicines this has supported hospitals to give the treatment needed.
Throughout this treatment journey, charities have been involved to offer and give children the very best care and support.
Our pupil had support from the ‘Milly’s smiles’ charity, who “provides a Milly Bag to every family whose child has been diagnosed with cancer and admitted to one of the specialist paediatric oncology wards we support across the UK”.
“Our Milly Bags contain items that will help during the first few days, and weeks, of their hospital stay. Along with this we provide items that will bring a smile to the faces of the children, and let families know that people are thinking about them”. https://www.millyssmiles.org/
As a school we wanted to raise money for one of the charities that have supported the family and asked our Pupil Council to support this in some way.
Pupil Council recognised that we have all walked with and alongside the pupil and their family as they journeyed through a very difficult time.
In aid of this we asked for everyone to bring a welly (old/ spare) with a colourful summer bedding plant planted inside and displayed in front of our Community Garden. The bright colours symbolise the Milly’s Smiles charity and every welly brought in a donation could be made for the charity.
We have raised £164 through donating and sponsoring our own wellies.
Thanks to the PTFA here at St Edward’s CE Academy, Cheddleton who did a bright coloured non-uniform day today to help raise more awareness for this fantastic charity and raised £220.
We have raised £384 in total. A truly amazing amount showcasing our local community coming together during a very difficult time.

OUR WILD FLOWER MEADOW:
We are delighted to see how well our school Wild Flower Meadow is flourishing since our recent warm weather.
Preparations for this wild flower meadow began in the Autumn term when we marked and covered the ground ready for our seed pods.
This Wild Flower Meadow was planted by ECO Council during our World Book Day in March 2026. These Wild Flower seed pods were kindly given to us as a leaving gift from a teacher that was retiring - Mrs Hordern.
The meadow looks beautiful.

Our Writing Leads came together for a valuable professional learning opportunity last week. Following the initial CPD delivered by our Trust EYFS Lead, Sue Machin, practitioners visited St. Edward's Academy, Cheddleton, to observe the writing model that Sue has developed in collaboration with EYFS practitioners at STEAC.
The visit provided an opportunity to see the model in practice and explore how it supports children's development as writers through purposeful and engaging experiences. Practitioners observed children orally composing sentences before recording dictated sentences, strengthening both composition and transcription skills. This approach closely reflects the recommendations within the DfE's Writing Framework, particularly The Importance of the Reception Year.
A huge thank you to Sue Machin and the EYFS team at St. Edward's Academy for sharing their expertise and showcasing the impact of this collaborative approach to early writing development. We look forward to seeing how these insights continue to strengthen practice across our Trust.

Over the past few weeks, we have had an amazing opportunity watching our chicks hatch from their eggs in an incubator.
The children have been fascinated watching the changes and learning about how living things grow and develop.
The children have had the opportunity to gently hold the chicks, helping to build confidence, care, and respect for living animals.
We have adopted all five chicks and they will join our other school animals here at St Edward's.
Throughout the school, we have animal ambassadors who take care of all of our animals by helping to feed and clean them out, ensuring that they are well cared for.

Our animal creations are now on display at Peak Wildlife Park. We would love for you to come along, explore the park, and see what our amazing children and staff have created.
