Exploring Colour the Montessori Way ๐
This week, one of our children set to work with Colour Box 2, she carefully matched the colour tablets independently.
To extend the work, the teacher invited the child to explore the classroom and find objects that matched the colours of the tablets. She took on the challenge, searching her environment and successfully found objects that matched.
We love seeing how Montessori learning naturally extends beyond the materials. Work like this supports concentration, visual discrimination, independence and confidence, allowing children to make connections between the Montessori material and the world around them.
This is just one lovely example of purposeful learning in our Montessori classroom at Nurture Childcare ๐ฑ

These little blue shapes are our Geometric Solids, and although they may look simple, there is so much learning happening here.
Children are invited to hold, feel, roll and explore each solid, discovering for themselves that some shapes roll, some slide and some stay still.
Through this hands-on exploration, they begin to notice differences in shape, size , edges and surfaces, building early mathematical understanding naturally, long before they need to know all the mathematical words.
This is something we REALLY love about the Montessori Method.
We don't need to rush in with answers or turn everything into a lesson. We prepare a beautiful moment, offer purposeful work and give our little ones the time to explore. ๐

The Knobbed Cylinders.
A beautiful sensorial piece of work that may look simple, but has so much learning happening beneath the surface.
As the children remove, compare and return each cylinder to its correct place, they are refining their visual sense, beginning to notice very small differences in height, width and dimension.
Sensorial materials give children the opportunity to really see these differences and work them out for themselves. Through repetition and the hands on experience, children's ability to observe, compare, order and discriminate becomes increasingly refined.
This learning has a purpose that reaches far beyond the work itself. Developing visual discrimination helps to build foundations that children will draw upon later, when they begin recognising shapes, patterns, letters and numbers , as well as when they start reading and writing.
At Nurture Childcare we love that within the Montessori Method, there is so much purpose behind what can appear to be a simple activity. The children are learning through their hands, their senses and their own discoveries.

A little look at what we've been busy with today!
Today our children have been enjoying some lovely pieces of Montessori work. All made to encourage independence, concentration and importantly, practical life skills.
We have been carefully pouring water from a jug, learning how to control our movements and do things for ourselves.
We have also explored the ball tower, watching as the ball travels from top to bottom when we post. This helps us visually track, supporting reading as we grow!
We have spent time with the Knobbed Cylinders , using our eyes to work out where each piece belongs, refining our visual sense.
Each piece of Montessori work gives our Children at Nurture Childcare time and space to practice, problem-solve, make mistakes, concentrate and build confidence.
You are more than welcome to come for a tour of Nurture Childcare, where Children are encouraged to become independent and develop a love for learning. ๐

๐ฟ Independence isn't something we teach children... it's something we carefully prepare them for.
In our Montessori classrooms, every shelf, every resource and every activity has a purpose. Children are free to choose meaningful work, developing concentration, responsibility and confidence through hands-on experiences that respect their individual pace of learning.
It's amazing what children can achieve when they're trusted to lead their own journey.

๐ฟEvery Montessori material has been thoughtfully designed with a purpose. Rather than simply keeping children occupied, these carefully crafted resources encourage them to think independently, solve problems, refine their movements and develop the confidence to learn at their own pace.
It's an approach that values the process of learning just as much as the outcome, giving children the time, space and freedom to explore, repeat and master new skills in a way that feels meaningful to them.

๐ฟ Grace & Courtesy โ Rolling a Work Mat ๐ฟ
Sometimes it's the simplest activities that have the biggest impact. ๐
Learning to roll a work mat is one of the very first Grace & Courtesy lessons in our Montessori environment. It might seem like a small thing, but it teaches children so much more than just rolling a mat.
They're learning to take responsibility for their own workspace, look after the classroom, and complete a task from beginning to end. It also helps develop coordination, concentration and independence โ all through a simple everyday routine.
Watching the children take such pride in doing this by themselves is one of those little moments that reminds us just how capable they are. It's these small achievements that build confidence and encourage a real sense of responsibility.
If you'd like to see how the Montessori method supports children to become confident, independent learners, we'd love to show you around. ๐

๐ฟ Knobbed Cylinders 1 ๐ฟ
The Montessori Knobbed Cylinders might look like a simple wooden puzzle, but they are so much more than that.
As children carefully remove each cylinder and find its correct place, they're developing visual discrimination, concentration, fine motor control and problem-solving skills. Every cylinder is different in size, so children learn to observe carefully, think critically and self-correct when something doesn't quite fit.
One of the things we love most about this activity is watching children persevere. Rather than asking for help straight away, they take their time, try again and experience the joy of working it out for themselves. Those little moments of success build confidence that carries over into so many other areas of learning.
At Nurture, we believe children learn best when they're given the time, space and encouragement to discover things independentlyโand activities like the Knobbed Cylinders are a wonderful example of that. ๐
