Children 1st Acorns Nursery School

Today we had a visit from Chris who works at Zoolab and a few of his friends. The children from Peter Rabbits, Early Years and The Barn met Millie the cockroach, Violet the cornsnake, Gerry the gerbil and Atheeler the tarantula who was 20 years old!

Today our Jemima puddleduck children had a wonderful time exploring the sand in the tuff tray. They happily used their hands to feel the sand, moving it around and loved watching the sand spill back into the tray as they played.

The children in Peter Rabbit's today were listening to the story 'We're going on a bear hunt'. They followed the adventure by exploring a sensory tuft tray using various materials and gloop to bring the story to life.

The children in Benjamin Bunnies have been investigating the dinosaur tuff tray. They have been stomping the dinosaurs in the sand, looking for food and making dinosaurs sounds.

Last week we took part in activities to celebrate David Attenborough turning 100! 🎉🐯🐸🐒🐍🐟
In our babies and bobtails, we focused our play on animal story books, sharing stories with the practitioners and making the different animal noises. We also did some printing with the animal shaped sponges.
In our toddler rooms we went on nature walks, did bug tuff trays and went on a bug hunt using the magnifying glasses, we also used tape to make a spider web and practiced our fine motor skills as we used the pincers to collect the pom poms from inside of the web.
In our preschool rooms we had different animal themed tuff trays to explore. We had a farm, jungle and under the sea which sparked lots of talk around the different animals and where they live, we also touched on recycling and the importance of this as our children were collecting the plastic bits from the 'under the sea' tuff tray.

With last week's weather bringing us sunshine we had lots of water play activities in nursery. Our Jemima Puddle duck children especially enjoyed exploring the water. We had different animals and the sensory scarfs in with the water, but it didn't take long before the children were getting into the tray and ready to make lots of splashes. ☀️

We are so lucky to have such a beautiful blossom tree growing in our garden and today when the children went outside, we had noticed that lots of the blossom had been blown onto the ground. The children quickly went to explore the blossom leaves and found it was lots of fun picking the blossom up and throwing it into the air. We also used it to complete filling and emptying actions and was also sharing it with our friends. 🌸

Today, many of our preschool children found out which primary school they’ll be starting this September - such a special milestone in their journey. 🎒
