We would like to say thank you to everyone who joined in at our give it a go session the other day!

Due to the Law Fair being held today unfortunately we will not have a meeting this week. However, we do strongly encourage everyone to go to the fair today and talk to all of the amazing guests about the potential careers in law, postgraduate study and work experience.

See you all there!

Hello everyone!

Just a quick reminder that tonight we are hosting our first official event as a society at 5:15pm, staring our university's very own Louis Martin, Senior Lecturer in the School of Law, Policing and Forensics!

This event is a casual chance to ask the questions you've always wanted to know about law; whether that be legal language, legal history, improving legal employment chances, policing, the Inns of Court and more.

The link to join the Microsoft Teams channel for the the Law Society will be posted below; we look forward to seeing you all!

Calling all Law Society members! We have two vacant committee positions that need to be filled; a Communications Officer role and a Financial Officer role.

The Communications Officer is responsible for liaising with the manager to organize social events and meetings, supporting the completion of society documents, working with the Students Union to encourage recruitment and being actively involved in our social media.

The Financial Officer is responsible for overseeing and managing the societies budget, accounts and and statements, ensuring all accounting activities are managed in accordance to Student Union policy and procedure and organizing fundraising events.

These roles are imperative to the smooth functioning of the society and are highly rewarding. Not only do these roles give you an opportunity to help shape and grow the society, it allows you to gain experience in a leadership role that gives you direct exposure to valued skills/tasks such as teamwork, confidentiality, communication and administrative duties.

These experiences are highly valued by recruiters in the legal field and the advantages of having any of these roles on your CV can not be understated.

Anyone interested should contact the Students Union with their student number, what society they are in and which role they wish to stand for at [email protected]. The deadline for submitting your interest is the 30th of October at noon! - Aaron

Hello again everyone! Although there has been an announcement recently on Blackboard, I thought it would be a good idea to promote it further here considering how great this opportunity is.

The Property Bar Association are hosting their annual essay competition again this year and, as always, the prizes for the winners are extraordinary! For a chance to win £1000, an invaluable property law book and having your essay published, make sure to bookmark their page and begin writing your essay on the 1st of November 2020; I know I will be.

If you are thinking of going into property law upon graduation, entering this competition is a must! But even if you aren't going into property law, winning this prestigious competition will boost your CV and will hopefully help you hook that dream training contract or pupilage you've always wanted! I have attached their competition page below. Make sure you bookmark it, put a reminder in your calendar, read the rules, see what prizes are up for grabs and start brushing up on your property law knowledge and referencing skills!

Good luck! - Aaron

Hello new and returning Law Society Members! We hope everyone is settling into the 'new normal' well here at Staffordshire University as we move into a blended learning approach. Lincoln's Inn Online InnSight Day 18/05/2020

Aspiring Barristers, please see below message from Lincoln’s Inn:

Good Morning,

After the popularity of the InnSight day last Tuesday I’ve decided to run a second version. The event will now be split into two parts; part 1 will be on Wednesday 20th May, 3pm-4pm and will be a presentation from myself outlining the route to the bar and the Inns of court. This will be followed by part 2 on Wednesday 27th May, 3pm-4pm which will be a Q&A session with some of our barrister members.

As the first event booked up very quickly some of your members may not have had the chance to book on, so I thought this second event might be of interest. Places can be booked by visiting the Eventbrite link. Students will be submitting questions in advance via Slido.

All the best,

Beth
