Dear Parents, Carers and Members of Our School Family,

As we come to the end of another wonderful school year, we would like to take a moment to reflect on all that we have achieved together and to thank each and every one of you for your support, commitment and partnership throughout the year.

This has truly been a year filled with joy, learning, opportunity and community spirit. Our children have continued to impress us every day with their enthusiasm, kindness, courage and determination. Whether in the classroom, on the playground, in worship, on the stage or out in the community, they have represented our school values beautifully and made us incredibly proud.

One of our greatest strengths is the partnership we share with our parents and carers. Your involvement in school life makes a tremendous difference to our children and helps to create the warm, vibrant community we are so proud of.

This year we have welcomed families into school for so many occasions including:

Your willingness to volunteer, attend events, encourage your children and support our school makes a real difference. Thank you for the many ways you contribute to school life. We truly value your commitment and partnership.

I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to our incredible staff team. Their dedication, care and hard work ensure that our children receive the very best opportunities every day. They continually go above and beyond to support our pupils and families, and we are extremely fortunate to have such a talented and committed team.

🧱 Building Project Update 🧱

The building and refurbishment work continues to progress well and we are working very closely with Brims Construction throughout the process.

As with many large projects, there have been a few challenges along the way. The programme is currently running slightly behind schedule. Whilst this has delayed some elements of the project, these essential works ensure that the new facilities are safe and fit for purpose for our children.

We are pleased to confirm that our new SEND Unit is due to open on Tuesday 3rd November, following the October half-term holiday.

Thank you for your patience, support and understanding whilst this work continues.

Over the summer months there will be significant activity taking place around the outdoor spaces and car parking areas. Although the car park may not have white lines marking parking bays, we will communicate any changes to access arrangements or drop-off and collection areas as soon as possible in September.

👋🏼 Farewells and New Beginnings 👋🏼

The end of the school year also brings mixed emotions as we say goodbye to some valued members of staff

Miss Knaggs, Miss Cook and Miss Thompson are leaving our teaching team and Miss Swales is leaving the office team. We wish them all the best in their new jobs.

At the same time, we are delighted to be welcoming several new colleagues to our school family in September. We look forward to introducing Mrs Morrow, Ms Daff, Mrs Rennison, Miss Place-Carr, Miss Hill and Miss Furniss and know that they will quickly become valued members of our community.

As we come to the end of another year, we celebrate not only the achievements of our children, but also the strength of our school community. Together we have continued to build a school where everyone is welcomed, valued and included; where faith and learning go hand in hand; and where every child is encouraged to flourish.

Thank you for being such an important part of our journey.

We wish you all a safe, peaceful and happy summer break, especially our Year 6 pupils who are leaving us and starting a new adventure.

Welcome from the Governors

We want to provide parents and carers with a summary of what the Governors have been doing this year to support, celebrate, and continue improving our fantastic school. It has been another busy, productive, and rewarding year at St John’s, and we are proud of everything our children, staff, and community have achieved.

The ongoing building works are progressing brilliantly. We are excited to see these improvements taking shape and look forward to the benefits they will bring to both children and staff. The upgrades will enhance our school inside and out in many meaningful ways. Exciting times for St John’s.

How Governance Works at St John’s

Two main committees meet regularly throughout the year to ensure Governors stay informed, involved, and able to support the school effectively. These meetings help us understand how children are progressing, what is working well, what needs continued focus, and provide opportunities to hear about the wonderful activities, trips, and experiences the children enjoy. We make regular visits to help us understand the school. Speaking with children and staff is a very important part of this.

School Improvement Committee
This committee discusses and sets targets for a wide range of things including:
teaching and learning approaches
detailed progress checks across each year group
SEND provision and support
staff training
school trips
curriculum development

Risks and Resources Committee
This committee:
Monitors and sets budgets
Reviews the school premises
Oversees staffing
Focuses on ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children and staff every day.

Individual Governor Responsibilities
Governors also hold responsibility for monitoring and reporting on a wide range of areas including safeguarding, SEND, environmental sustainability, and mental health and wellbeing.

Farewells and Warm Welcomes

We wish our Year 6 children every success and happiness as they move on to their new schools. They are ready for the next big step in their journey, and we are proud of you all. It was lovely to meet so many of you over the years, to hear your fantastic ideas and look at your work. Thank you!

We also extend a warm welcome to all the children joining us in September. We look forward to meeting you and helping you settle into our St John’s family.
