Festive crafts have begun 🥰 decorating with natural loose parts to bake our own salt dough decorations.
The children experienced the wonderful Christmas smells from the Christmas tree branches, star anise, cloves, juniper berries. Feeling the different textures and making marks in the dough.
The smells coming from my kitchen as I dried them slowly in the oven was amazing 🤩 🎄

Autumn time is our favourite time of year to enjoy the great outdoors 🥰🍁🍂
Sparks conversations about the change in season.
Lots of nature walks; collecting different coloured leaves, conkers, acorns, sticks.
It’s like finding treasure hidden amongst the fallen leaves and our excitement to find the shiny brown conkers.
Watching squirrels scurrying up trees
Enjoying the autumn sunshine whilst challenging our physical strength and balance on outside play equipment.

Autumn invitation to play and explore 🍂 🍁
Lots of autumn themed loose parts to explore, connecting nature and real- world materials in different set- ups.
Creating joyful learning moments;
🍁language and communication- using lots of descriptive words-spiky, smooth, shiney…..
🍁maths- counting, predicting how many more conkers needed to fill a pot, weighing, comparing sizes, full/ empty….
🍁Physical development- strengthening hand muscles using tongs, using fingers to ‘prise’ open the conker shells
🍁personal, social and emotional development- sparks curiosity. Encourages teamwork and inclusive play. Problem solving…
The list is endless 😊
The children stayed focussed and engaged for quite some time with these exploration set ups.
