Wild about Wilding? πΏπ¦ Discover, learn, and reconnect with the nature all around you with the Wilding app ‡οΈ
One of the things Great Big Green Week reminds us every year is how much people want to connect with nature, and how much easier that becomes once you know where to look. πΏ
We recommend the excellent free app from our friends at Wildling, mapping over 2,000 nature spaces across the UK, from ancient woodlands to hidden urban green corners, alongside fresh seasonal nature content each week. It has also just launched free, self-led Ranger Missions trails for families to explore together.
Wildling brings fresh nature content every week: what's coming into season and where to spot it, the small signs of the natural world shifting around you, and simple ways to notice more on a walk you thought you already knew inside out.
We wanted to share it as a simple way to keep that Great Big Green Week spirit of noticing and connecting with nature going, all year round. π

π If you find yourself struggling in the water, remember:
Float to Live!
π One decision could save a life.
If you unexpectedly find yourself struggling in the water, don't fight it β Float to Live.
Cold water shock can affect anyone, even strong swimmers. Knowing what to do in those first few moments could save your life.
If you're spending time by the water this summer, remember:
β
Swim at lifeguarded beaches and stay between the red and yellow flags.
π± Always have a way to call for help.
π« If you see someone in difficulty, call 999 immediately β never enter the water to attempt a rescue.
If you find yourself in trouble in the water:
π Float on your back.
π§ Tilt your head back with your ears submerged.
π« Relax and try to control your breathing.
π€² Move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat.
β‘οΈ Once the effects of cold water shock have passed, call for help or swim to safety if you can.
In an emergency, call 999 and ask for:
β’ The Coastguard (at coastal locations)
β’ The Fire and Rescue Service (at inland locations)
Drowning is preventable. Knowing what to do in an emergency could save a life.
