Ahoy from Stocksfield Explorers! 🏴‍☠️⚓

We’ve been celebrating International Pirate Month with plenty of swashbuckling adventures inspired by our focus book, *A Week of Pirate Tales* by Fiona Munro.

The children have created their own treasure maps using charcoal, teabags and different mark-making techniques, before putting their balance and coordination to the test as they carefully ‘walked the plank’ across the logs!

Of course, no pirate adventure would be complete without some buried treasure. Our Oaks and Saplings got stuck into the mud to hunt for hidden treasure, using sticks to make an all-important ‘X marks the spot’ 🗺️✨

Through imaginative play like this, the children are developing physical skills, creativity, early literacy, problem-solving and confidence - all while becoming completely immersed in their own adventure.

🏖️ Life's a Beach! ☀️

Our Stocksfield Acorns have been diving into their exciting new beach theme this week, and there's been lots of seaside fun along the way! 🦀

The children loved creating their own miniature sandcastles before discovering a cheeky crab hiding in the sand. Together, we explored positional language by placing sand **on**, **under** and **next to** our new crabby friend, before enjoying a game of peekaboo to see where he was hiding next!

Activities like these may look like simple play, but they're packed with opportunities to develop language, communication, problem-solving and early mathematical understanding, all while having fun and letting imaginations flourish.

🥣 Our Stocksfield Explorers mud kitchen has been bursting with creativity this week as our little chefs whipped up everything from delicious soups and hearty stews to cakes and imaginative bakes! 🍃🥣

Using loose parts, natural treasures and fresh cuttings from our herb garden as their special 'ingredients', the children created their own recipes while exploring the world around them through play.

Mud kitchen adventures are about so much more than getting messy. As the children mixed, poured, scooped and stirred, they naturally explored concepts such as size, shape and quantity, while using all of their senses to investigate different textures, smells and materials. We also saw some wonderful teamwork as friends shared resources, exchanged ideas and created together.

At Explorers, we know that some of the richest learning happens when children are free to imagine, experiment and follow their own ideas. A simple mud kitchen can become a bakery, a café or even a magical potion shop – and that's where the real learning begins. 💚

This week, our Oaks and Saplings have continued to enjoy harvesting the delicious fruit growing throughout Forest School 🍇🌿

The children carefully picked blackberries and raspberries before helping Olivia turn them into some yummy, healthy flapjacks. From collecting the fruit to mixing the ingredients together, there were lots of opportunities for teamwork, communication and hands-on learning.

Activities like these help children make meaningful connections with nature, learn where food comes from and take pride in creating something from ingredients they have grown and picked themselves.

There was lots of excitement at Stocksfield Explorers this week as we discovered that the raspberries in our Forest School garden were ripe and ready for picking! 🍇🌿

Working together as a team, the children carefully picked a bowl full of juicy, fresh raspberries before deciding to turn them into delicious homemade raspberry flapjacks.

From measuring ingredients and following instructions to mixing everything together, the children demonstrated fantastic teamwork, communication and independence throughout the activity. Best of all, they loved enjoying the tasty treat they had created using fruit they had grown and picked themselves! 😋

Experiences like these help children make meaningful connections with the world around them, encouraging curiosity, confidence and an appreciation for where our food comes from.
