Read to the end.....

We are so lucky to have beautiful school grounds, our children love being outside and help all year round to grow new exciting things, tend to the plants, create beautiful decorations and learn all about the wildlife and nature. We have spotted many different kinds of birds 🐦 (including owls!)🦉, hundreds of bees🐝/butterflies🦋/bugs🐞, watched caterpillars🐛 munch on leaves as part of learning life cycles and eaten some delicious vegetables that we have grown! 🥔🥕

Forest School 🌳🍂explores the school grounds throughout the year, we take part in the annual Big Bird Watch👀, and, when it's lovely and sunny🌞, we get music lessons on the field in the sun!

So imagine our joy, when, in the last week of term we received a letter....a very, very, special letter. There was shouting and whooping and lots of happy emotions as well as a huge sense of pride for what they children, and the staff who have supported them, have achieved over the last year. We are Prudhoe in Bloom School winners!!!!

Thank you to all of the parents and carers who have been donating to our Mickley Garden Fund in MCAS, this makes a huge difference and thank you for all of the kind donations of plants, water butts, seeds etc. We really do appreciate it and put everything to very good use.

Thank you to Prudhoe Town Council for your lovely words, the letter meant so much to us all. We look forward to seeing you in the new term to receive our award! 🥇

And of course...roll on the next year of gardening and growing! We already have lots of ideas on things to do 🌱

The PTFA are vital to our school, they contribute towards school trip costs to lower the cost to parents/carers, revamp parts of the school to make beautiful more usable areas, throw discos, organise fairs and much, much more. They are always in need of volunteers so if you are able to attend the PTFA AGM meeting, join their WhatsApp group, or help in any way, please do let us know!

So we saw yesterday how lovely Miss A's Forest School training was and how hard she has worked but what does it look like in practice... Over to Miss A to let us know what they have been up to!

Reception and Year 1 had a fantastic time during their Forest School sessions at Mickley and in Ovingham First's enchanted woods! The children set off on a nature texture hunt, exploring the woodland to discover a variety of natural treasures. They decorated their own bags to collect and carry their wonderful finds before enjoying plenty more outdoor adventures. From climbing trees and taking part in team games to building woodland homes, creating beautiful bee crafts and weaving colourful God's Eyes, the children embraced every opportunity to learn, create and explore in nature. It was wonderful to see their curiosity, teamwork and imaginations flourish in the great outdoors. We can't wait for our next Forest School adventure! 🌳🐝🍂

In our constant drive to ensure we can offer our pupils the best experiences at Mickley, Miss Atkinson has been working through her Forest School training! 📝🌿

Miss A has had a fantastic time developing new skills and deepening her understanding of outdoor learning. From learning how to use tools safely and responsibly, to mastering fire lighting techniques, every session has been hands-on, inspiring and full of valuable knowledge. It's been wonderful to spend time outdoors, learning practical skills that help children build confidence, resilience and a love for nature. We're looking forward to bringing these new skills back to school and sharing them with the children through exciting Forest School sessions. Seeing their confidence, curiosity and independence grow in the outdoors is something we're really looking forward to! 💚

A huge thank you to the trainers Caroline and Jon from Adventure Training North East for such an engaging, supportive and enjoyable course. Here's to many more outdoor adventures! 🌳🌿🍂🍄
