Greenbank Preparatory School and Day Nursery

Greenbank Preparatory School and Day Nursery Greenbank is an independent school, preschool & nursery offering exceptional education for children aged 6 months to 11 years.

Small classes, specialist teaching, and a nurturing environment, we inspire a love of learning and help every child thrive. Greenbank Preparatory School is an independent co-educational school for pupils aged three to eleven years. A separate Nursery, open fifty weeks of the year, cares for babies and children from six months to three years old, after which they move to our newly built Preschool unit.

Art at Greenbank isn’t about every child producing the same picture.

With professional artist Paul Morin as our art teacher, children learn how to look carefully, explore materials, develop an idea and make their own creative decisions. They are taught the skills and techniques they need, but are also given the freedom to find their own way of using them.

Because there is much more to art than creating something to take home. It teaches children to notice, question, experiment and trust their own ideas.

Harvest Festival is one of the first occasions in the school year when our children, families and staff come together.

Last year, our children filled the Church with songs, poems and thoughtful words, while the generosity of Greenbank families helped them understand that Harvest is also about noticing others and contributing to the community around them.

It is a simple tradition, but one that says a great deal about the values we want our children to carry with them.

We’re looking forward to seeing what this year’s Harvest Festival will bring.

The races, the relays, the cheering from the sidelines and that final push towards the finish line…

Sports Day is always one of those occasions that brings the whole Greenbank community together. Last year gave us so many moments to remember: children encouraging one another, celebrating each other’s achievements and having the confidence to give something a go.

We’re already looking forward to doing it all again this year.

Which Sports Day event would your child choose: the sprint, the relay or one of the traditional favourites?

It may look like children building dens, balancing on logs or working out what to do with a collection of sticks, but there is much more happening beneath the surface.

They are making decisions, solving problems and learning to assess risk. They are working together without an adult providing every answer, finding another way when the first one doesn’t work and discovering that they are capable of more than they thought.

Sometimes it is the quieter child who takes the lead. Sometimes it is the cautious child who decides they are ready to have a go. Those moments matter.

Forest School gives our children space to grow in confidence and independence while enjoying something childhood should always include: the freedom to explore, get muddy and learn through doing.

A rather extraordinary girl, a terrifying headmistress and just a little bit of magic…

Can you guess which show our Year 6 children brought to the Greenbank stage last year?

Their production was one of the real highlights of the summer term, giving every child the opportunity to contribute, whether they were performing on stage, singing, dancing or working behind the scenes.

We’re already wondering what this year’s Year 6 production might be. Whatever it is, we know it will give our children another experience to remember long after they have left Greenbank.

What do you think they should perform next?

24/09/2026

Two of our Year 6 children heard that we had an Open Morning coming up and decided, entirely off their own backs, to write a rap about Greenbank.

They wrote it during their lunch break, found different places around school to film it and created their own invitation for prospective families.

No adult gave them the idea. It wasn’t homework, and it certainly wasn’t part of our marketing plan. It was simply two children who wanted to contribute, and had the confidence, creativity and initiative to make something happen.

Our most recent ISI inspection recognised Pupil Leadership and Contribution as a Significant Strength. Sometimes the best way to explain what that looks like is simply to let the children show you.

Turn the sound on. We think they may persuade you better than we ever could.

THERE’S SOMETHING NEW TO SEE AT GREENBANK.

This September brings new classrooms, redesigned learning spaces and The Meadow, our new inclusive learning space.

They may be new, but the thinking behind them is something that has always mattered at Greenbank.

Children being known as individuals. High expectations. Support when it’s needed. Opportunities to have a voice, contribute and be themselves.

The new spaces simply give us more ways to put those beliefs into practice.

On Saturday 3 October, we’d love you to come and see them for yourself.

Explore our new spaces, view The Meadow's plans, meet our teachers and children and get a real feel for Greenbank.

ONLY AT GREENBANK

The Greenbank Way isn't something that simply sits on a page or describes the kind of school we would like to be. You can see it in the decisions we are making and in the way Greenbank continues to grow.

The Meadow is creating new possibilities for children who may benefit from additional support. Our new learning spaces are giving children more flexibility in the way they learn. And our move towards classes capped at 16 gives teachers even more opportunity to know the children in front of them.

We are continuing to develop the experiences and opportunities children have throughout their time at Greenbank too, because all of these things come back to the same belief: children are individuals, relationships matter and every child should feel that they belong.

We want children to be supported and challenged to achieve highly without having to lose themselves along the way.
The Greenbank Way isn't something new we're introducing.

It is what we have always believed, and now we are able to do even more with it.

WHO THEY BECOME MATTERS.

We are proud of the senior school places, scholarships and opportunities our children go on to achieve, but Year 6 is only one point in a much bigger story. The years children spend at Greenbank are filled with experiences that stay with them long after they walk through the gates for the last time.

It might be finding something they love, discovering they can stand on a stage in front of an audience, learning to be part of a team, taking responsibility for something that matters to them or having the confidence to ask for help when they need it. There will be things that don't go to plan too, and those moments matter because children learn to try again, work things out and realise that getting something wrong doesn't mean they can't succeed.

We want children to leave Greenbank with more than a strong set of results. We want them to leave knowing themselves a little better, understanding what they can do, recognising where they still need to grow and feeling ready for the senior school and opportunities ahead.

Because where they go next matters.

But so does who they have become by the time they get there.

At Greenbank, we want children to understand that leadership isn't about being the loudest person in the room or having a particular title. It is about being willing to contribute, take responsibility and recognise that the choices you make can have an impact on the people around you.

That might mean helping someone younger, listening to a different point of view, representing classmates, taking responsibility for something that needs doing or having an idea and finding the confidence to share it. As children grow through school, they are given genuine opportunities to contribute, make decisions, represent others and take responsibility for the people around them.

And this isn't simply something we say about ourselves. During our most recent inspection, ISI recognised Pupil Leadership and Contribution as a Significant Strength at Greenbank, placing us among approximately the top 10% of independent schools nationally to receive this recognition.

We are proud of that recognition, but we are even prouder of the children behind it and the way they are learning, often from a young age, that their voice matters and that they have something to contribute.

Because leadership isn't something they need to wait for.

It starts with the small things they do every day.
