Okay. So the Plate didn’t go to plan either, unfortunately—went down 3-0.

Not to make excuses... except I am blatantly about to make an excuse!

My legs were heavy from Friday night’s game, and frankly, I had nothing left in the tank. It was a thoroughly enjoyable match against Mark Lafferty of Essex, though—played in the right spirit with great company off the court, too.

Plenty of positives to take away: after this 6-week training block, I’ve managed to lose a significant amount of weight, get my health back on track, and I’m hungry to go again! Looking forward to the Southern Masters at the end of November.

I watched a lot of great squash this weekend and caught up with some fantastic people, but best of all was watching my good friend and training partner Kirsty West win the Women’s Over 35/40s in a hard-fought 3-1 victory!

Great thanks to England Squash Masters for putting on a great event, and also Warrington Sports Club for hosting!

So it is unfortunately a round 1 exit in my first-ever Masters Squash event.

Let’s be clear, though—I'm VERY happy with how I played tonight.

Oliver is a great player and rightly seeded high in this event. Best of luck to him in the next round against the top seed.

Still some work to do on my strength and stamina to live at this level, but I’m taking great confidence from the way I played—especially how I closed out the 3rd game against a 12k+ player on SquashLevels!

I should be back for the plate comp tomorrow, so watch this space for more updates.

Masters squash very much is still the primary focus this year, got my opening match in the North of England Masters, at Warrington Sports Club on Friday evening this week.

Trained hard (when the injury allowed) and I am really looking forward to the test ahead.

All being said - what better way to prepare than with a run out in the North West Counties Squash League division 1 for Grove Park Squash Club!

Solo practice done - pretty happy on the whole.

Even finished with some court sprints (off camera, as they always are)

Felt good to do a few drills last night - still nervous about the shoulder, but frankly, with 8 days to go until my first match I simply need to be hitting.

See how this one goes!

Just felt the need to post an update…

Even though there isn’t really much to report!

Injuries are brutal - especially when you are hungry to train. I am choosing to look at this as a good early test of mental strength, to stick at it, do what I can, and keep focused on healthy habits to come back quicker.

This initial training block has certainly provided me with some insight into what’s to come - a LOT of work to do to get my body as strong as it needs to be to compete in this bracket, but hey, have to start somewhere!

Thanks to everyone who has followed (continued to follow) this page since the rebrand from club coach to Masters player.
The squash community has always been very close to my heart, as such I love the fact that I can still communicate from within it in a positive way and contribute towards the sport.

And that’s the first event entered!

Really looking forward to this England Squash Masters event at Warrington Sports Club

Been training hard for the past 3 weeks. Now, age that does mean more time out on the bike, and in the gym. Perhaps not as much fun, but neccersary to avoid injury!

Definitely will look to get some more quality hits in over the next few weeks, too.

Combinations of focused drills sessions, and the occasional practice match.

Very fortunate to have access to amazing players and people at Grove Park Squash and all across Cheshire to get on court with.

Watch this space for some training vlogs coming soon!

Hi all,

Been a minute since I’ve posted on here!

This page was formerly known as "Nathan Mayers Squash Coaching."

For those who know me well, I’ve been out of full-time coaching for almost five years now. I loved every minute of it and have zero regrets—it was simply time for me to move on and take my life in a new direction.

Looking back on my coaching career, there was one feeling that always lingered in the back of my mind: I felt like I had underachieved as a player. Again, no regrets—that’s just how life goes!

Now, at the ripe old age of 35, a new door opens for me: Masters squash.

I never thought I’d see the day—I was going to be a "young player" forever! But here we are.
It's worth pointing out that this category is jam-packed with top players. I’m not expecting to win events or even push the elite guys too much, but I do see a great opportunity to test and push myself to a higher level than ever before.

Most athlete pages I follow feature either top-tier competitors or huge underdogs. I’m neither—probably just your standard, "middle of the road" Masters player. That got me thinking: maybe there’s space to share what that real journey looks like!

I intend to post updates on training and maybe do a little vlogging (I do like the sound of my own voice, after all!).
Many wonderful followers supported my coaching career on this page over the years. If you’d like to stick around and see a little more content from a slightly different perspective, I’d love to have you along for the ride!

Great day at the Commonwealth Games 2022 so far! About to watch my favourite player of all time James Willstrop!
