As Derek the Tortoise continues to settle into nursery๐ข๐ข๐ข, the children (and parents) have been enthralled by him!
Throughout the week the children have been learning about his care needs such as feeding and sleeping habits. They also learned that Tortoises like to have a bath and a scrub, so some of our two's took part in a bathing activity, carefully cleaning Derek in the water and using a toothbrush to gently brush his shell. The children also used magnifying glasses so that they could look more closely at Derek's shell. This helps the children to learn more about the natural world and the different ways of caring for the animals within it๐๐ข๐๐ชฅ๐ข

We are excited to introduce the newest member to our nursery family...."Derek the Tortoise"๐ข๐ข๐ข
Derek has enjoyed his first day induction and has adapted well during his settle session, even going so far as to meet our Lower Preschool children who all took great delight in seeing Derek in and out of his Tortoise house and feeding him some lettuce leaves that they had picked from our outdoor planters.๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
Derek has proved very popular on his first day with children and parents alike...welcome to the family Derek!๐ข๐๐ข๐

"Personal development is about the belief that you are worth the effort, time and energy needed to develop yourself." (Denis Waitley)
๐๐๐Team development is so important to us as it enables staff to gain the skills and knowledge needed to grow and develop in their roles. This week we are thrilled to announce that one of our amazing Apprentices Romilly has completed her Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner, whilst our former Macclesfield College Apprentice of the Year Jess has now gone on to complete her Early Years Initial Teacher Training and is now a qualified Early Years Teacher๐๐๐ Both ladies have worked exceptionally hard and we are so proud of their achievements๐คฉ๐คฉ๐คฉ

"Diversity is having a seat at the table, Inclusion is having a voice and belonging is having that voice heard." (Liz Fosslien)
Having a number of children who use English as a second language, who come from different cultural backgrounds or who simply have family members in other countries means that we support a diverse mix of children. Teaching children about these different cultures and countries promotes inclusion and a sense of belonging for everyone. To support this, we have created a range of 'Talking Tubs' from around the world, that enable ALL children to embrace a range of cultures, countries and languages.๐ช๐ฌ๐ฎ๐น๐ซ๐ท๐ช๐ธ๐ง๐ท๐ต๐ฑ
This week our Toddler children are taking a trip around the world to celebrate some of the countries that are important to our children and families. Yesterday they visited China where they tried on traditional costumes, observed a map of the country, looked at and talked about a range of pictures of food, landmarks and traditions, then shared a dual-language storybook, all led in Mandarin by one of our wonderful team.โค๏ธ๐ฅข๐จ๐ณ

โจ Preschool Adventures โจ
Our preschool children have had a wonderful week exploring the theme of holidays! Weโve talked about where we travel, how we get there, and all the exciting things we might see along the way.
To finish off the week, the children created their very own postcards, designing colourful holiday pictures and writing special messages to their loved ones. They were so proud of their work and couldnโt wait to send them off.
This afternoon, we took a little trip to the post office where the children bought their own stamps before popping their postcards into the postbox. Such a lovely realโlife learning experience, helping them understand how we send letters and stay connected with the people we care about.
We canโt wait for families to receive their postcards soon! ๐ฎ๐

Little Gardeners at Work! ๐ฉ๐ผโ๐พ๐ฑ
This week the 2-3's took part in a lovely gardening activity, planting flower seeds for our outdoor planter.
They explored soil textures, talked about what plants need to grow, and practised careful hand-eye coordination as they sowed their seeds. ๐ชด๐จ๐ผโ๐พ
We look forward to observing the changes together and supporting the children's understanding of growth, care and the natural world.๐ท๐ผ

๐๐๐What a wonderful Mental Health Awareness week we are having. The children have taken part in so many activities to support their mental wellbeing, and likewise so have the team and parents. Educating the children to understand, recognise, and be able to talk about their emotions is so important in supporting them, but for those that already struggle with their mental health, it is important that they feel supported too.
As a setting we work hard to ensure our team and families know that we are there for them. This week the staff have benefited from Mental Health support bags, taken part in "The Great Nursery Bakeoff", created pictures of their co-workers (that one really raised spirits๐), completed exercises such as 'star jumps' before work and had a pyjama day. Our parents have joined us for 'Breakfast and a chat' with our resident mental health first aider and supported our fundraising efforts with our cake and bake sale ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ง๐ง

Today our wonderful 2-3's enjoyed a calming and playful yoga session with Claire! โจ
The children explored gentle stretches, big breaths and simple movements that helped their bodies relax and their minds slow down. ๐ฟ
They loved copying the poses, watching each other, and sharing smiles as they moved together. ๐

"Love and kindness are never wasted, they always make a difference" (Helen James)
๐ฉท๐จ๐ฅฐ๐๐ขThis week we are focusing on Mental Health Awareness, and our amazing Upper Preschool have taken part in a fantastic activity that demonstrates how they can spread love and kindness.
Starting with a paper 'apron' and a dab of paint, the children then went on to hug each other, showing how love and kindness can be shared by one big hug! Not only that, the children have created wonderful love & kindness artwork as an everlasting memory๐ฉท๐จ๐ฅฐ๐๐ข

The children have been eagerly spending quality time with our Preschool Chick Romilly๐ฅ๐ฅ
The children have been holding her, talking about how she has changed, how she has become fluffy, that she has grown feathers and that her wings are "really big!"
Romilly also showed her love for her Mother Hen Lisa as she followed her around the carpet!
Romilly has been a wonderful addition to the nursery and we will be sad when she returns to her real Mother Hen back at the farm this Friday๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
