MEET A MEMBER
A few years ago, we did a small series of meet a member interviews with some of our members. I have been wanting to reboot it for a while, so I am going well out of my comfort zone and doing it myself.
My name is Anna, and I am 46. My work is medico-legal stuff. I also volunteer on the committee for CGWI (social media and technology), and I am on the Autism Partnership Board for Stockport council as an autistic adult voice.
Q1 - How long have you been a member of the WI and why did you join?
“I have been a member for nearly 6 years; my first introduction was when I joined a friend for a quiz night at CGWI. I was surprised that my friend was a member of the WI as she was only in her early 20s at the time, but as soon as I was there I knew I had found my people. I attended as a visitor for a couple of meetings. I am neurodivergent and like to assess social situations before I jump in, but I felt at home very quickly at CGWI”
Q2 - Where or what is your favourite place?
“I am lucky enough to have travelled to some wonderful places over the world but even after all that I would have to say it is my flat. It is my fortress of solitude. After spending years of my young adult life being unknowingly on the edge of autistic burnout I not only love being in my flat on my own, but I also need it to be able to function and enjoy life in the outside world. I just love to have a day at home alone when I can lounge on my mountain of Squishmallow toys, build a Lego set, watch a film, and drink a can of Irn Bru”
Q3 - Who is your style icon?
“This one made me LOL. I normally describe my aesthetic as toddler or kid’s TV presenter. Comfort closely followed by colour and pattern are the most important things. I have a lot of sensory issues with clothes, so I pretty much live in dungarees and have quite an extensive selection”
Q4 - What is the wallpaper or screen saver on your phone and why?
“Cosmic microwave background radiation from the big bang, it is beautiful and I love how it is coloured in a way that it looks like how Predator sees things”
Q5 - If you were a wrestler what would be your entrance theme song?
“I am so annoyed that I can’t just come up with one! My choice would either be Levels by Avicii, Good Vibrations by Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, or anything from Prodigy’s Fat of the Land album (special shoutout to the Stockport Fishwives)”
Now that is all done I am running off to hide in Manchester Museum and see a triceratops skull!

We have an information page on our website regarding the emergency alert planned for tomorrow, Sunday 7th September 2025 at 15:00. The dates mentioned on the page are from the test a couple of years ago but the same information applies.
There are several reasons why someone might need to turn these alerts off (working shifts, anxiety, hidden phone as experiencing domestic violence etc) there is information on this page on how to do this.
Please share if you think this can help someone.
UK emergency alert FAQs | Cale Green Women’s Institute The emergency alert is a system that will be used if there is danger to life nearby. It will be tested on Sunday 23 April 2023.
