We have been exploring some maths activities this week, these activities help develop our fine motor skills, hand and eye co-ordination and confidence with numeracy
Using pincers the children pulled the stretchy worms from the ice blocks, developing our fine motor skills. We then added different shape cutters for the children to fill and make colourful shapes.
Beads and thread were used this afternoon, using hand and eye co-ordination to thread the beads on. The thread was FULL, then we measured everyone against it to see what was taller, the children or the 'snake'. The children found it very funny that Vikki joined in, and she was longer than the snake!
Outside we explored further with 'ready, steady, GO' games using the cars and ramps. This activity helps to support listening skills and anticipating when to let go of the car.
Lots of fun had, we are loving summer term :)

The first half of summer term pre school have explored bugs! Last week we finished the half term by revisiting everything we had learnt. As well as celebrating world bumble bee day on Wednesday.
Here are some of the activities we enjoyed;
- developing our fine motor skills by squeezing honey into the 'honeycombs', we later then tasted honey on bread
- learning that bees make honey by collecting nectar from flowers
- measuring the different insects and developing our mathematic language
- getting creative using paint to decorate animal pictures, using hand and eye co-ordination to make dots on the pictures
- using the magnifying glasses to find bugs in the garden
- following step by step instructions to draw our own bugs
- exploring a bug sensory tray
- making bug prints in play dough, the children also made snails by rolling out the play dough and twirling it together
- and of course watching out caterpillars grow, spin cocoons and then hatch out into painted lady butterflies
What a busy half term pre school have had. We can't wait to see what the next 7 weeks will bring when we return in June

Pre school have been exploring Minibeasts this half term, they have loved learning about the different insects.
Today we explored a sensory tray of bugs with different materials. One child pretended the cornflakes were leaves and hid the Minibeasts underneath them. They then added the grasshoppers to the grass, all while checking the Minibeasts book to see where the other insects might like to explore.
This activity supported lots of language with the children as they talk about prepositions - in, under, on top of. Plus developing our love of books as we read through the different facts about bugs.

๐ฆ Today we said goodbye to our Butterflies ๐ฆ
At the beginning of half term we had some caterpillars join us at nursery. We have watched them grow bigger over the past few weeks, then spin their cocoons. Last week one by one the cocoons hatched and we had 5 butterflies, this type are called 'painted ladies'. The children have learnt the life cycle of the egg, caterpillar, cocoon and then butterfly.
We have given our butterflies fruit to feed on and sugary water too. Today they were strong enough to fly into the sky. Some had a rest on our plants and then flew up high. We have loved watching them explore our garden and then fly off to their next adventure.

๐ This week our pre children are learning all about spiders. We have read the book โAaaaarrgghh Spiderโ and the children have loved copying the phrase โout you goโ
๐ weโve talked about having spiders as pets
8๏ธโฃ Weโve learnt that spiders have 8 legs
๐ท๏ธ The children have used their fine motor skills to thread legs onto their own spiders and add spider eyes too
๐จ using glue and pens weโve created our own spiders
๐ธ๏ธ We balanced spiders on the 'spiderweb' the children made the web bounce and watched the spiders to see if they stayed balanced or fell off
๐ฆต Using the play dough we add legs to the spiders body

๐ This half term the pre school children are exploring mini beasts, this is something the children are interested in. They love finding bugs in the garden and shouting their teachers to show what they've found.
๐ Last week the children in pre school shared the story 'what the ladybird heard'. We listen to this on the CD story and our teachers read it to us as well.
- the children painted their own ladybirds and these are displayed in the pre school cloakroom
- the children used ladybird play dough mats to recognise number and put the correct amount of spots on each ladybird
- we explored red play dough with black rocks and black pipe cleaners, creating our own ladybirds
- using glue we stuck together our own ladybirds, these are also displayed in the cloakroom
- using pens we traced over ladybird spots, practising out pencil grip and mark making skills
- using glue we stick spots onto ladybird pictures
