Bike Explorers will be returning to Recyke-a-bike in October.

Recyke-a-bike will be running Bike Explorers, our two day course for kids. The course will include:

- Looking after your bike; safety checks, cleaning & lubrication, emergency repairs; chains, brakes & gears
- Ride preparation; learn about the outdoor access code, what to wear, what to pack, route planning, bike skills and games, riding in different environments
- The ride; a cycling adventure on tracks, paths and cycling infrastructure

We'll keep the group sizes small, with max 8 kids in a group.

Drop your kiddo off at Recyke-a-bike at 9:00am and enjoy a day to yourself, collection is at 3:00pm

Statement from Drem-Gullane Path Campaign

We want to provide a campaign update.

There's a lot of work continuing behind the scenes, and the clear message we have received from East Lothian Council is that they are committed to finding a positive way forward at the earliest opportunity.

We are grateful to the Council's Chief Executive, Laurence Rockey, and his officers for their continued efforts, and to Gullane Area Community Council for its ongoing support.

"Incidents involving our staff have reduced by over a third (37%), demonstrating the impact of the training."

Each year, Road User Awareness Training courses - funded by Transport Scotland - support hundreds of fleet, goods and passenger carrying vehicle drivers to step into the shoes of more vulnerable road users, including people on bikes.

We heard from Kevin Carty, Occupational Road Risk Manager for infrastructure services company M Group Energy, on the difference the training has made since being embedded as a core part of the organisation's in-house driver training package.

"The impact of the training was evident immediately, with drivers demonstrating a noticeably improved understanding of their responsibilities and the importance of safely interacting with vulnerable road users."

"Longer term and over the two years we have been working in partnership with Cycling Scotland, reported driving incidents involving our staff have reduced by over a third, demonstrating the measurable impact of the training and the value of our collaborative approach to improving road safety."

"Beyond the statistics, the personal accounts shared by our drivers also demonstrate the real behavioural changes the training has helped to create."

"One driver described how the training fundamentally shifted their approach, leading them to leave wider passing distances and reduce their speed around people walking or cycling."

In this rewarding role, you'll deliver Bikeability Scotland training in schools, helping pupils develop essential cycling skills and confidence on two wheels. You'll also support road safety initiatives, events and campaigns that promote active travel across our communities.
