⚽ Little Feet, Big Football Fever! ⚽
With the excitement building for Scotland’s big match tonight, our nursery children got into the football spirit with a lively game of table football!
There were cheers, celebrations, and plenty of teamwork as our young football stars took turns spinning, passing and shooting. While having lots of fun, the children were also developing important skills including fine motor control, hand-eye coordination and strengthening the small muscles in their hands and fingers.
The activity sparked conversations about football, teamwork and national pride, with many children excitedly sharing who they would be supporting this evening. 🇸🇨
Learning through play is always a winner in our nursery, and today’s football challenge was a fantastic way to combine physical development, communication and lots of sporting fun.
Come on Scotland! ⚽🏆💙

The toddlers enjoyed practising their number formation by using their fingers to write numbers in the foam spread across the table. This hands-on activity encouraged them to develop their fine motor skills while becoming familiar with number shapes. The children showed enthusiasm as they traced and repeated the numbers, building confidence through sensory play and exploration.

The little explorers took part in a sensory hand hygiene activity using water, oregano, and a small amount of washing-up liquid to explore how germs can be removed from their hands. The oregano represented “germs,” floating on the surface of the water. When the children dipped their hands into the water without soap, the oregano stuck to their fingers, showing how germs can stay on our skin. When a drop of washing-up liquid was added, the oregano quickly moved away, demonstrating how soap helps to break down and remove germs. 🦠 🙌🏽 🧼
Earth Day Sand and Water Sensory Tray 🌍
The little explorers used sand and water to create a simple ocean themed environment for children to explore. 🏝️
Sea animal figures are added to encourage imaginative play and discussion about marine life. 🐳
Children can scoop, pour, and move the sand and water, developing their fine motor skills and hand eye coordination.
The Rainbow Room had a wonderful time celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, immersing themselves in all things green while exploring simple ideas about special celebrations. The children enjoyed learning that St Patrick is a special person linked to Ireland and joined in with fun, age-appropriate discussions about being kind and helping others.
They worked together to create a vibrant collaborative mural, using a variety of mark-making techniques such as dabbers, pens, and paint. This creative activity helped to strengthen their fine motor skills, support emergent writing, and build those all-important hand muscles.
The fun continued with a hands-on sensory rice activity, where the children delighted in pouring, transporting, lifting, and using tweezers. This playful experience supported their coordination, control, and overall fine motor development. ☘️
👩🍳🌈 The Rainbow Room were busy little bakers yesterday!
We made pudding for the whole nursery — delicious blueberry muffins with our very own Queen Baker, Arlene! 🫐🧁
From measuring and mixing to carefully following the recipe, we’ve been building our maths skills, practising turn-taking, strengthening our hand muscles, and learning how ingredients change when we bake.
The best part? Sharing what we made with our friends!
Learning is even sweeter when we bake it ourselves 💛
Today our toddlers enjoyed a simple but exciting science activity using pipettes and a little water to help compressed paper “worms” grow. 💧🐛
The children were so curious about the tiny rolled worms and couldn’t wait to see what would happen when they added water. With lots of concentration, they squeezed and released the pipettes, building their fine motor skills and hand strength along the way.
There were smiles and surprised faces as the worms slowly expanded and “came to life.” It was a lovely moment of discovery, sparking early scientific thinking!
