The Definite Line is a idea I had to share my approach to line drawing through workshops with small groups of people. My name is Donna Nicholson-Arnott.

I thought some might benefit from learning from my practice and my years spent doing line drawing. The Definite Line is a idea that I had to share my approach to line drawing through workshops with small groups of interested people. It is in the very early stages, but I thought someone might benefit from learning from my practice and all the years I’ve spent working with line drawing. I’m a graduate of Glasgow School of Art.

What a blast last night was! I got invited along to Stewarton Art and Chat to give a lesson on continuous line drawing. The group used each other as models, and my goodness there was much hilarity! The group also worked hard and they made many lovely drawings, good job everyone. I drew a woman called Liz for the last pose. A great night.❤️

The workshop last night went ahead, despite the weather! We had glorious blooms from Levi, at Studio Mazzolino which were an absolute joy to see and draw. I can’t share any of the participants this time so I’ll share my own drawing I made using my non-dominant hand, and some photos of Levi’s gorgeous arrangements. Grateful to Sarah at The Book Nook Stewarton for letting me use the space, thank you for all your help and support with this workshop.x

I spent some time learning about the volumes of the vases for the Observational Drawing Workshop at The Book Nook Stewarton tomorrow night. It was an interesting experiment: I thought the cut glass vase was closer in volume to the pint tumbler, but it was more like the Arc jug. Hmm. The next time you see these they will be filled with lovely blooms from Studio Mazzolino

The pilot Continuous Line workshop on Monday night at The Book Nook Stewarton went great. It was lovely to finally meet all the people who wanted to take part, and they all worked hard and did amazing! We had some great chat about line drawing. And it was a joy to work with the model Joëlle. I very much enjoyed doing the demo drawings. Especially the one for the non-nominant hand, the last photo posted. Great pose! Thanks to Rob in The Book Nook for the workshop photos.

It’s tonight folks! Continuous Line Drawing Workshop at The Book Nook Stewarton, at 7. The sketchbooks are all stickered, and I popped out earlier on for a coffee in Mossgiel Coffee House and tested out one of the pencils. Spaces still available on the workshop for any last minute bookings…

Less than a week to go until the workshop! I’m very excited. Had a go at getting a continuous line around the lovely old reading room space of Pollokshields Library during my lunch break yesterday. I was working very fast and of course I smudged my lines a bit in the process. There are a couple of tickets left folks, if anyone knows anyone who might be interested, please pass it on!
